How is this different from Toucan?
Zachary Blender
Just tried it and immediately impressed with the word test component to see mastery. Please mention that feature in your product advertising!
Gavin Dove
@zachary_blender Will do! Thanks for letting us know that this wasn't clear. Feel free to give me a shout if you have any other suggestions, my inbox is always open :)
Ara Ghougassian
@zachary_blender Thanks so much Zachary! Wait till day 3/4, it start feeling REALLY magically when you have words near completion and you have to actively recall them. Just thinking about it for a moment helps tie the word to your memory much stronger :)

@zachary_blender wonder who copied whom? 🤔

Hey everyone, I'm Gavin, a co-founder of Fluent, and I'm glad you stopped by. We've been working like crazy since our first PH launch - and finally created a Fluent we're proud to call version 1.0 We've re-built Fluent around one idea. People LOVE learning. There's nothing better than seeing your skills gradually improve, week over week. We just hate bad teachers - the ones that make you feel stupid, like you'll never "get it". That's why we've made your learning progress front and center. We want Fluent to be the best teacher, ever. That means cheering you on, every time you learn something new. It also means creating chances for you to show off your knowledge. Nothing feels better than learning something, and using it well. We think that seeing yourself get a little better, every single day, is the best motivator of all. So, what's new? - Choose the words you want to learn by hovering over them. Fluent will translate them more often, so you learn way faster. - Fluent tracks your progress for each word. Each time you see one, you'll make a bit *more* progress. If you hover over it, there may be a quiz to test your knowledge. Get it right, and you'll progress even faster. Eventually the word will be so familiar you can use it in your sleep. - We celebrate your wins! Each completed word is a step closer to fluency. So, we colour them green, and drop confetti. In the coming months we'll be release early access for new languages, and teaching phrases and grammar - so you can use the language even faster! P.S. If you like our vibez, we're hiring! http://usefluent.app/foundingeng...

@gknd95 wow what a great idea! Now can you make me learn a word every-time I open my phone?
Gavin Dove
@joeyorjohn On it 🤫
Dipti Gautam
@gknd95 Been using it since I knew about it from PH's newletter 3 days ago, and it's already my favorite language learning tool! Excited to see what's in store for the future!
Gavin Dove
@dipti Thanks Dipti - we're just getting started!
Kemal Goksu
Cool! Where is the Firefox version?
Ara Ghougassian
@kemalgoksucom On the way this year, hopefully later this Spring! Vote here so you can be one of the first to know when it's out :) https://feedback.usefluent.co/fe...

@kemalgoksucom @ara_ghougassian1 Firefox extensions usually don't take that long to build, since the API is pretty much the same as Chrome's. So probably only a few small tweaks and you're good to go (and you can use the same codebase). So it's probably more of a single day project rather than a long thing you have to spend ages getting to work and rewriting code, just letting you know in case you didn't realise! Some Chrome extensions even work without any changes.
Ara Ghougassian
@kemalgoksucom @booligoosh Thanks for the heads up Ethan really appreciate it! We've scoped it out and our case get a bit more complex for a few reasons. Just have it out soon! :)

I’ve been following Fluent’s progress for a while now and had the opportunity to chat with the team — not only are they incredibly talented, they’ve built what I would say is the best language translation models in the market. If you’re learning French/Spanish/Italian, Fluent’s your best bet!
Gavin Dove
@steventey You're too kind Steven - comments like this get me out of bed every morning :)

@gknd95 You guys deserve it!! 🤩

This method of integrated language learning is the next best thing to moving to the country where they speak the language you want to learn, particularly when it comes to useful, conversational/colloquial language. There is a huge kernel of truth to this approach that makes it so effective, namely, the difference between the traditional approach of taking time OUT of your day to learn a language versus this more natural approach to integrating language learning IN to your day. I look forward to seeing how this evolves. Big 🙌 to the creators at Fluent.
Ara Ghougassian
@rueter Yes exactly! Immersive learning is the gold standard in our opinion (and research shows its incredibly effective). You nailed it. Thanks so so so much for the kind words, the team really appreciates your support <3
Ivanna Wendel
Simple and useful! Perfect match!
Ara Ghougassian
@ivanna_wendel Thanks so much Ivanna :)
Phil Givens
Looks interesting Steven! Congrats to you and your team
Yaniv Silberman
@phil_givens Thanks a lot Phil!
Shashank Polanki
The notion of being able to indirectly learn something like a language without a heavy conscious attempt just feels really futuristic! Congrats Ara, Gavin, and team for pioneering something truly incredibly!
Gavin Dove
@shashank_polanki1 Thanks so much for the support, Shashank :)
Tushar Shahi
Congrats on the relaunch. The idea is amazing and so is your product. As someone who already uses Toucan, how would you make me switch to this?
Yaniv Silberman
@tushar_shahi1 Honestly, if you're learning a lot and are happy, who are we to tell you to switch? It's a great product with an incredible team. The difference between us at the moment, is we focus more on getting you to a point where you don't just know the words, you can use them conversationally. However, we don't offer nearly as many languages yet, since we're fully focused on how much we can teach with the ones we have. Give it a shot and decide for yourself :)
Tushar Shahi
@yaniv_silberman1 Thanks for this. I will give it a try. Best of luck :D
Ulysses Asencio
Hi, how long until you have more languages?
Ara Ghougassian
@ulysses_asencio Working on adding more language all the time! Currently have Italian in Early Access and we'll launch that publicly soon. Which language are you looking to learn?
