I built Echo because my voice memos kept piling up as untitled recordings I never went back to. Transcription was never the hard part. A transcript is still work, because you have to read it, decide what it was about, and put it somewhere. Echo does that part. You press record and talk, and the words appear on screen as Apple's on-device speech recognition hears them. When you stop, the note comes back with a title, a written-up version that drops the false starts while keeping your wording and your numbers, and a category it picked on its own. Six categories ship by default (Ideas, Journal, Work, People, Plans, Notes) and Echo adds more when your notes call for them. When it files something wrong, you move the note, and the correction feeds back into how the next one is filed. The raw transcript stays behind a toggle at the top of every note. A cleaned-up note you cannot check against what you actually said is not worth much. Recording, on-device transcription, keyword search and sync across devices are free, along with 25 AI-filed notes a month and a three-minute cap on a single note. Echo Pro removes the monthly limit, raises a note to fifteen minutes, and adds search by meaning, so a search for headache turns up the note where you said migraine. It is $39.99 a year with a 7-day trial, or $5.99 a month. Audio never leaves the phone. Only the transcript text goes up to be written and filed. Echo is iPhone only for now, and it keeps working offline. The part I most want feedback on is the auto-filing, so tell me where it puts a note somewhere you would not have.
