How do you make money from this? It's explained at a high level but details would be helpful.
Vinny Lingham
@leebossio We charge companies that want to connect to consumers for ID verification. For example, if a bank wanted to verify that one of our users was really opening an account - they would pay a small fee to confirm their identity.
Lee Bossio
@vinny_lingham And how is data protected?
Vinny Lingham
@leebossio right now it's best in class end to end encryption. We have a groundbreaking new architecture being unveiled in Q4 though
Stuart McCroden
@vinny_lingham @leebossio When I hear "groundbreaking" and "best in class" as answers to a security question, it tends to indicate they can't answer the question--or don't want to.

"if you are not paying for it you are the product being sold". do you defy this or you don't?
Vinny Lingham
@patelpriyank Think about that for a minute. Would you rather pay $10/month or would you rather I charged companies for notifying you when someone is using your information?
Priyank Patel
@vinny_lingham it seems this is your fourth company. how do i trust new startups that they won't take my data and sell it off or just vanishes like most startups. it is a private company holding my data and doing BETA testing of their business model. Meanwhile, i do not see any mention anywhere about how do you safe keep my data?
Vinny Lingham
@patelpriyank all 3 previous companies are still in business. Please read our privacy policy - if you don't like it, then 99.99% of the websites out there not work for you because ours is the strictest you will probably. If you are really concerned, why not search the dark web just to make sure your data is not already there...

Civic has an audacious plan to actually solve the world's identity problems, which will have huge implications. I can't wait to see where this goes :)
Meltem Demirors
what's not to like? current identity theft insurance products cost $15 - $50 a month for basic coverage, so this is a no brainer.

@melt_dem Couldn't agree more 🤓

Civic is a game-changer. I'm signing up everyone in my family. Congrats, Vinny!
Vinny Lingham
@kverde Thanks Kevin!
Aric Boyles
@vinny_lingham @kverde Is there a way to sign up the family (wife and kids) all under one account?

Speaking as an average consumer, I'm skeptical of services like this offered for free. Is there room here for reassuring visitors that the service is legit? Maybe a sponsorship from major insurers or testimonials would help.
Vinny Lingham
@desmondduggan2 Our insurance policy is underwritten by Assurant - one of the largest global insurers.
Steven Macherey
@vinny_lingham @desmondduggan2 I've got family working there. Sounds about right.

Preventing fraud before it happens! Congrats to the Civc team on the launch. Looking forward to signing up.

The design here is fantastic.
Erik Torenberg
congrats on the launch @vinny_lingham! I'm curious -- can you talk more about the moment when you knew you were going to start Civic ?
Vinny Lingham
@eriktorenberg I had been playing around with the idea of voting on the Blockchain, identity products, civic engagement and democracy at different times of the past ten years. The real moment it all came together was when I was trying to find a name for the company and the name civic came into my mind. I went to civic.com and it was actually for sale and I bought it! It brought all my ideas together under a single brand name with some real meaning!

I love this idea/product! @vinny_lingham I'd love to chat with you about an integration with a product I'm currently building. Right now, I'm an affiliate with LifeLock, but I'd like to offer a better option and I think Civic is just that. I'll send you a DM on Twitter.
