ChatterMate - Open-source AI customer support on nine channels

by•
Last year ChatterMate was a chat widget for your website. It now answers on nine channels - web chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, LINE and Slack - all landing in one shared inbox. It answers from your own docs, grounded and cited, and hands off to a human when it matters. Agents can work from their phone, and tickets raised from a chat investigate themselves against your logs. Self-hostable with Ollama. Apache-2.0.

Hi Product Hunt. I posted ChatterMate here in March 2025 and it got nine upvotes, so I want to be straight about why I'm back. It isn't the same product. Back then it was a chat widget for your website. The honest problem with that: support doesn't happen on your website. It happens wherever the customer already is, and for most of our users that's WhatsApp. So over the summer it became an omni-channel agent. Nine channels - web chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, LINE and Slack - all arriving in one shared inbox, with the same knowledge base and the same handover behind them. Your agents can work it from their phone. And tickets raised from a chat now investigate themselves against your logs and databases and come back with a root cause and the evidence for it, which is the part I did not expect to become the most-used feature. Three things I'd rather say up front than have you find out. The agent answers from your documents and cites which one, and it is built to say it doesn't know rather than guess. That's a design choice with a cost: it will refuse things a more confident bot would happily invent. We moved the licence from AGPL-3.0 to Apache-2.0 in July, so you can self-host it, fork it, and build commercial things on top without a source-disclosure obligation. Self-hosting with Ollama means no customer conversation ever leaves your infrastructure. It's a small project - 113 stars, 49 forks, a handful of paying customers. I'm not going to quote you a percentage improvement, because I don't have an audited one and I've spent the last month arguing publicly that nobody else's are trustworthy either. Happy to answer anything, including what it's bad at. The channel integrations are newer than the core and that's where the rough edges are.
