Carrd - Simple, responsive, one-page sites for pretty much anything.

Hey folks! Carrd is a project I've been building off and on since last summer. It's my first "major" solo project since HTML5 UP / Pixelarity, and definitely the most complex thing I've ever attempted to build on my own (more on that another time), so I'm super excited to finally share it with the world (well, the world outside my Twitter following at least :) The concept behind Carrd is pretty straightforward: it's a free service for building and hosting simple, responsive, one-page sites for ... basically whatever, be it a personal "business card" style site or a "coming soon" page with a Mailchimp signup form to capture emails. It's fast, super simple to use, and 100% free, though bonus features (like forms and custom domain support) are available with the (entirely optional) $19/year Pro plan. So, my goal with Carrd was to create a product that really focused on simplicity and ease of use while still being capable of building attractive/functional sites. Based on early feedback I think I've come pretty close to that goal, but as I'm sure there's plenty of room for improvement (as indicated by its "kinda-sorta-beta" state) please let me know what you think :) --- Update (March 22, 2020): In the midst of the craziness we're all experiencing right now, I somehow (though I guess justifiably) missed Carrd's FOUR YEAR Product Hunt anniversary on March 16, 2020. It's hard to believe it's been that long already, but whether you're just trying Carrd for the first time or you've been following its journey since it officially launched here all those years ago, thank you for supporting my work on what's grown to be the biggest, most ambitious, and most successful project I've ever had the pleasure of working on! When I wrote Carrd's introduction above four years ago, I honestly wasn't expecting a whole lot. I was obviously proud of what I had built and what it had taught me in the process, but to me, at the time, the real satisfaction came from finally being able to share it with all my fellow makers on Product Hunt. Beyond that, I had no expectations other than to *maybe* earn a bit of extra cash on the side while continuing life as a serial side projector. Fast forward to today and Carrd now serves over 400,000 users and hosts north of 600,000 of their sites (!), with tens of thousands of new users and sites coming online every month. It's spawned numerous side businesses and opportunities for people worldwide, become something of a ... phenomenon among various kpop/fandom communities (give it a search on twitter ;), and has literally become a full time job for myself, my long-time business partner (who's had to pretty much shelve all our other projects/client work to help run operations on Carrd), and soon, perhaps, other folks as we look to hire (!!) and continue to build out and grow Carrd. Again, it's hard to believe it's already been four years, and even harder to believe just how far Carrd has come in that time. However, I can say with 100% certainty none of it would have been possible had it not been for Product Hunt, @rrhoover and his amazing team, and of course, the incredible community around it (especially @diego_iglesias for initially hunting Carrd). I love the fact that you don't even have to register/login to start playing around!

Carrd is the most amazing web building platform I've seen to date- and trust me, I've tried everything. You start off with a blank page, or choose from expertly-designed templates, then you can build your own site with content LEGOs: drag text under an image, make a row of links across the top, or even add some of your own code.

When you discover control bars that let you break your site into pages, though, it's when everything changes: Carrd goes from letting you create business-card like pages to making full-blown websites for anything- home base for your app with dedicated support and contact pages, a sign-up form for an event that plugs names and comments into a Google sheet, ANYTHING (how do I make extra bold?)

Carrd is now my go-to tool for anything web-building related. I made a website for a friend and even made a few bucks off it. I'm also teaching an HTML class for my homeschool support group and there will be a whole lesson on Carrd!

I just want to say thanks to @ajlkn for my favorite website for websites, ever.

Pros:

• Simplest & easiest website builder I've ever used

• Huge range of customization available for every element

• Plans w/ domain only $19/y

Cons:

• I'd love to see custom font support

• It would be nice to be able to put text over image blocks or behind columns

So basically it feels like an advanced alternative to about.me. I do love the simplicity, design and overall UX. Everything is precisely clear and simple. I do believe there is still much room for improvement. Great job, keepit up!

Awesome job @n33co! Whilst some say it could be a crowded marketplace for services like Carrd, you've definitely made it stand out by making it clean & simple 👌

Very cool project AJ. Are e-mail sign-ups and tracking (+some basic analytics) in the works? If you offer a service like that for free I would use this over something like LaunchRock in a heartbeat because of how it beautiful and easy to set-up everything is.

Love this - just paid for pro. Small things: - UI button on 'I agree to the terms' box difficult to find, I was stuck for a while - Couldnt get back to the URL/settings page when trying to find how to change that again http://jord.io

#ProductHuntReview: I could go on and on about how amazing Carrd is, but let's start with the bad first... Ok, I tried to write something negative and couldn't. My one piece of feedback is that there should be a Product Hunt icon for profiles, but that's about it. The on boarding and ease of use is ridiculously flawless. I like the concept and the presentation. Simplicity and ease of use - these are great for starting up, but what exactly is the added value compared to 'about.me' style sites? Id guess if you focus on ongoing utility for the user, rather than just set up, then this will have some longevity. This could easily be something like a 'public face' and a 'private face', where the public face is your communication with the world, but the 'private face' is a collection of links, notes, and integration - a personal message center.

I run a creative agency that focuses on website design, and even I want to use this for my personal single page site. Already have it up! So easy, so elegant, I love it. I like to keep a close eye on industry trends and new brands, and I think this is something that has a massive amount of potential, good work! http://zac.carrd.co

This is awesome @n33co! Upgraded to the Pro Plan. http://idris.cc (Still tinkering around with it) If all the links opened in a new tab including the social icons, it'd be more convenient. Secondly, if there was an option to enable a drop shadow for the "box," it would kinda give a material UI feel to it. Especially, when using a solid background colour. Lastly, an option to add a custom favicon. :) Everything else is awesome. Loved it! :)
