Is "parenting tech" reducing mental load or adding to it?
Many of us build products for work, health, money, creativity and productivity.
But becoming a parent can be one of the biggest operational changes a person ever experiences. Or is it just me?
Suddenly there are feeds, sleep, medication, appointments, milestones, care handovers, family coordination—and often several disconnected apps, group chats, notes, and reminders.
The strange part is that parenting technology often adds more input, alerts and anxiety instead of reducing mental load.
I’m building Baby Suite, so I have a direct interest here—but I would love a broader maker/parent perspective:
What is one parenting problem that technology still handles badly or should not try to solve at all?
A few tensions I keep thinking about:
Useful reminders vs notification overload
Shared family coordination vs privacy
Personalised guidance vs anxiety-inducing “perfect parenting” metrics
AI assistance vs advice that sounds too certain
Tracking data vs actually helping parents make a decision
If you are a parent, what digital product genuinely reduced friction in your life? And if you are building for parents, what did you learn the hard way?
