by•

Avocado Jobs is a job application manager for developers.

Simple tool that gets out of the way and lets you keep track of where you applied for what role.

Quite useful idea, however, more professionals would need it rather than just developers, i.e. freelance marketers and designers etc. I'd suggest not to keep it specific to developers.
Theodore Keloglou
@startupguysnet This is, of course, a great idea. I wanted to start with something more specific at first, with a problem I have more experience, as a developer myself; but expanding the audience is definitely something for the near future.

@sirodoht You guys created a very interesting product, at least for me, because I used to use Airtable and Excel to do exactly the same. However, which other features do you plan for the future?
Theodore Keloglou
@renatorotsztejn Hey, thanks! Possible new features include date per interview stage, the ability to add future applications, notes for each application. If you have any suggestions please do tell them!
Renato Rotsztejn
@sirodoht I would say to create the interface like a sales/crm/hiring pipeline. Take a look at these websites for inspiration (https://www.pipedrive.com) + (https://www.homerun.co/product/hire). It's more visual and easier to "track" your progress ;)
Theodore Keloglou
@renatorotsztejn Hmm, that's an interesting idea. I've heard some people that use Trello for their applications, so I guess it's definitely something worth exploring. I think I'll add it as a second view, so you'd be able to switch. Thanks for the suggestion!

I am actually in search of a job right now and I am using trello to maintain my status of applications. This can be a handy tool but there are often lot of details that are associated with the job posting. I would recommend that you keep an additional notes section where someone can keep adding notes related to particular application.
Theodore Keloglou
@siddharth_nahar Thanks, this is definitely on the todo list because you're not the first to request it :)
Theodore Keloglou
@siddharth_nahar Just updated Avocado Jobs with notes per application! Feel free to check it out and let me know your thoughts :)

hey @sirodoht , very happy that you are very active in developing basis user feedback. Want to help for one more thing. The notes section which you added seems a little hacky. Instead, you can create a link "Add a note" which when clicked opens an input box in the expanded card. When closed, it shows first few characters of the note which points out that there is some note added to the entry. I am sharing a quick design with you on Twitter of what I am trying to convey.
Theodore Keloglou
@siddharth_nahar thank you for suggestion once more. Actually, I considered having a separate input for notes, but I chose the in-place editing for faster and more direct UX approach. I'm sorry it seems a bit hacky, I'll try to improve it, maybe implement your suggestion too. Thanks again! :)

I am really starting to wonder which part of the avocado makes it such a sought after name for businesses. It's been used in project management tools, jobs, expenses even for couples, the latter being defunct now. Orange, lemon, mango, coconut, berry... Anything but avocado, please. Ideas anyone?
Theodore Keloglou
@aichholzer Haha, is that true? Had I known I would have probably chosen something else!

Good idea, very simple functionality. Right now it mimics Google Sheet table, that's all. If you can add integration with email, automatically tracking applications, setting up reminders to follow up, tracking new jobs across different sites and even automatic applications it could grow big ;)
Theodore Keloglou
@alexandermalakhov thank you for all those very good suggestions!

Hey hunters! I'm Theodore Keloglou, the maker of Avocado Jobs. As developers, we spend quite an amount of time on finding our next job. The last years the amount of time it takes to be hired at a company has been increasing. The interview stages keep taking longer and longer to complete. It is absolutely essential to keep track of all this information. Avocado Jobs is neat, simple, tool that does exactly that without getting in the way. It is built especially for developers, out of need for something sane that let's you get the info you need anywhere you are. Check it out at https://avocadojobs.com Feel free to comment with any feedback, feature requests or whatever comes to mind! Thanks! <3

Pros - Simple to use out of the box. Setup process took seconds. - Lightweight design Cons - Very lean in functionality at the moment Suggestion - Aim it at freelancers who's relationship with might be longer. Permanent job hunters have a short-term need for something like this - Needs to be better than a spreadsheet (which I use as a freelancer)
Theodore Keloglou
@stevendiffey Thank you for the suggestions! So, maybe add properties like how many hours did you spend for each client?

Very cool & useful, yet super simple, tool.

after the 50th CV, this is definitely very useful - well done

I like the name but you can already keep a track of applied jobs on AngelList and you can also see if the company has viewed your profile. Why not just use that?
Theodore Keloglou
@rleija_ Hi Ruben, the reason is that it is common to use multiple sites for finding your next gig. AngelList might be one them; GitHub Jobs, StackOverflow Careers, might be others you use everyday. Thus, you wouldn't have all the info you need in one place. Avocado Jobs fills that void.
Ruben
@sirodoht I would use if it automated that for me otherwise I'm just doing more work for myself because it's manual work. I could just use tabs or use a google excel.

I have seen many similar products in my 20 yrs. and now on PH. Try and do something unique for devs. I personally use a customized version of Streak in Gmail.

I've always wanted to have a tracking tool for all my applications! it's so painful to manage 50+ applications using excel .... Good job! Looking forwards to seeing the new version where non-developer jobs are included! Evelyn from Jobalaya
