The FTC just put a dollar figure on the gap between a car ad and the real price

Last week the FTC settled with a Florida dealer group: buyers paid over $3,350 above the advertised price on average, in over 92% of deals.

We build AutoLander, which posts dealer inventory to Facebook Marketplace. The Marketplace version of this problem is quieter. 22.6% of the dealer listings we track change price after going live, and the old number sits there until someone fixes it.

Question for makers here: how do you handle data that goes stale on a platform you don't control?

22.6% of dealer listings change price after they post. That changed what we build.

When we started AutoLander, we treated a Facebook Marketplace listing as finished the moment it went live. Take a dealer's inventory, turn each car into a listing, post it, move on.

Then we measured what happens after. Across 10,798 dealer listings we could compare over time, 22.6% carried a different price later than the one they posted at. Sold cars have the same problem: the dealer's system knows a car delivered on Saturday, and the ad keeps running until something takes it down. AutoLander - AI-powered Facebook Marketplace automation for dealers

AutoLander is a native desktop app built specifically for car dealerships. It automatically syncs inventory, creates AI-written vehicle descriptions, enhances photos with AI Background Studio, generates walkaround videos, posts listings to Facebook Marketplace, updates prices, and removes sold vehicles automatically. Unlike browser extensions, AutoLander runs from the dealer's own computer, helping sales teams manage Marketplace listings with less manual work.
