Appwrite's open-source backend platform lets you add Auth, Databases, Functions, and Storage to your product, build any application at any scale, own your data, and use your preferred coding languages and tools.
App development is complex and oftentimes, repetitive. Creating modern applications requires a ton of different skills and has a huge learning curve. I started working on Appwrite back in 2019 to abstract the complexity of software development so there could be a greater focus on creating value and, more importantly, having fun writing code.
Over the past few years, we have seen countless developers build their projects with Appwrite. However, your only option was to self host Appwrite, which although very simple, still added some friction to the experience. Although there was a lot of adoption, we also heard feedback from the community that self-hosting was not for everyone. It’s time-consuming, requires infrastructure management and, most of all, not accessible to every developer. This all was in contradiction to what Appwrite believes in, making it possible for every creator to create products the world loves.
To stay true to our purpose, we decided to develop our own cloud solution. One that would make Appwrite accessible to more developers. A cloud that would make building a lot more enjoyable and a lot less repetitive. A solution that would integrate easily with your existing tech stack and could easily adjust to your current projects’ needs.
Appwrite Cloud Beta provides you with Authentication, Databases, Storage, Serverless Functions, and a Realtime API and lots more. We support over 6 runtimes, 13 SDKs, coding languages and frameworks so you can build with the language most comfortable for you.
Some other highlighted features that make all the difference are automated git deployments, function templates for adding Stripe payments and subscriptions, an AI chatbot, and messaging with WhatsApp x Vonage, database relationships, password security, GraphQL support, Command Center with AI assistant, customizable email templates, and migrating your project data from and to Appwrite Cloud in a few clicks.
All in all, we are very proud of what we have accomplished together with the community over the past months and are excited to bring you Appwrite Cloud Beta. We continue to look towards the Product Hunt community for support and feedback in order to improve.
You can create your Cloud account and get started on cloud.appwrite.io. Our Starter plan is free and gives you unlimited projects, so it’s a great plan to explore and start your projects.
We will be available for support, and we’re excited to hear about your feedback while Cloud is still in beta and use that feedback and the power of the open source community to constantly improve and get better.
@eldad_fux Simplifying app development is a significant need in the industry, and your efforts to abstract complexity, reduce repetitive tasks, and make the development process more enjoyable are highly commendable
@eldad_fux Congratulations on the launch of the 🚀 Appwrite Cloud beta! We'll be happy to create your Cloud account and get started on cloud.appwrite.io.👍

@eldad_fux Congrats 👏 I'm already using it for my side project and it's super helpful. Can't wait for the Pro version to come out. Keep it up 👍
Appwrite Cloud Beta is a culmination of months of effort with one goal in mind, to bring you the best Appwrite experience possible. One of our main goals during the Beta, is to ensure the platform's stability before we can move onto general availability. During this time we understand there will be bugs and occasional hiccups, but I assure you our team is always available to address any issues and deploy quick fixes.
While in Beta, Appwrite Cloud is free to use. However, we've shared our pricing plans to give you a better sense of what it would be like to build on Appwrite in the future. I assure you, we've worked hard to give you some of the most compelling plans ever.

We hope you will enjoy building with Appwrite Cloud 🫶
Congratulations to the Appwrite team on the launch 🤩😍🎉.
Appwrite is one of the best Open Source Backend platforms, I really like the seamless authentication and user management.
I used Appwrite Cloud for my Open Source tool "Snippet Builder"(https://snippetbuilder.com/) a Drag and drop code snippet builder, that effortlessly showcases your code in a visually appealing and professional manner.
Thank you for creating an amazing platform.
@sachin_chaurasiya really happy to learn about your experience building with Appwrite! Have you had a chance to share about it on our showcase platform Built With Appwrite (https://builtwith.appwrite.io)?
@sachin_chaurasiya I feel so fantastic whenever I see the community build cool stuff.
It's so important for y'all to build and explore the limits of Appwrite, so we know what we still need to work on.
Cheers!
@donquixote Thank you! The ILLA Cloud integration with Appwrite is very cool!

💎 Pixel perfection
Started using Appwrite quite before the v1 hit. When it was only self hostable. The degree of dedication, support and friendliness from the team but also the genuinely awesome product they offer made them the best, to me at least. And so it was when they made their cloud platform and asked for devs opinions. They listened. To me, they're the single best open source company and community. Thank you for what you do guys! Already building my next app on your cloue:)

@silfalion Thanks @silfalion for such kind words! Can't wait to see what you are building with Cloud!
@silfalion ahh thanks! 🥹 We spend a lot of time and effort in making the developer experience enjoyable so it makes me happy to see the effort appreciated 🙏🏼
@silfalion It's a two way type of thing. A healthy relationship with the community gets us free feedback. I mean knowing what users think and want for many closed source companies costs $$$, for us, we just ask on Discord and GitHub.
What developers get in return is the opportunity to voice their needs and get incredible support :P
WIN WIN

Congratulations on the launch! Big fan of your landing page and your branding. Appwrite looks awesome!
I see many similarities between Appwrite and Firebase. I'm a long time Firebase user and am excited about seeing new products in the market. I have used Supabase on a few projects as well.
What is the main differentiator between Appwrite and the others?
@iskandarchacra, I get asked this a lot, great question!
Both are great products, but they're really different in philosophy. (This is also since last I checked Supabase; correct me where I am wrong)
So Supabase is a very tailored experience. There's one stack composed of some popular technologies. For example, their functions have to be written in Deno, your file storage is decided by them, and it's heavily coupled with PostgreSQL. If this sounds like your stack anyway, go with Supabase.
Appwrite is a little different philosophically, and we want to meet you where you're comfortable. We support like 10 Functions runtimes, we support 4 client and 8+ server-side SDKs. We let you pick your own S3 storage provider. We let you pick your own SMTP and SMS provider, etc. We are working on support for multiple database types, DBs backed by SQL and NoSQL alike, with many adaptors like Appwrite Storage.
We believe having more choices, the ability to one-click migrate from Cloud back to self-hosted, and having self-hosted be identical to Cloud in features gives you true data ownership. This is something unique.
Our Functions, since 1.4, support deployment from Git and are incredibly powerful. You can use them to build mini web servers basically, and they can be tracked, versioned, and deployed from the same repo as your client code. I really believe this is the most maintainable way to write serverless functions.
Of course, look at our pricing https://appwrite.io/pricing
Everyone has different needs. Which product's pricing fits your needs better also matters.
Anyway, try both, pick what makes the most sense to you. Even if you prefer another platform, our competition keeps them on their toes, too!
@laura_du_ry1@fmerian Thanks! Why not make OSS products look pretty? It's a part of the experience.
We know that OSS software benefits everyone, but making it appeal to everyone is a part of our beliefs as well :D
