Re: "not owning" issue, I'd even argue that Google Play Music has taken it even further than Spotify, since you can upload whatever music you "own" and have it accessible from anywhere (not just your own wifi synced devices like with Spotify). This way you can easily fill any gaps in their catalogue. If Google could only make a native mac/pc app with offline mode as well, not only on iOS/Android devices... Back to topic: I was a little surprised that Amazon only launched with 1 million songs, but yet an attractive benefit for the already excellent Prime program. Hopefully it will help bring streaming more into the mainstream in the US.
The was just updated with support for Prime Music.
That's what I was waiting for :)
Smart move. Likely to be targeted to Kindle Fires owners, waiting for its own phone / phone service next week
I remember seeing an article a few months back that half of the spotify catalog had never been listened to by anyone, so more is not necessarily better.
Hahah, thanks . I do LOVE Prime. It seems like amazon has integrated the new prime music into amazon music app/ cloud player so , you don't need to buy it for $0. I think they could do something cool by allowing you access to your home files from anywhere by connecting to amazon cloud storage too. This would be the spotify approach that was mentioning.
Ooo, one more idea, Spotify playlist exporter. It could be a chrome extension that scrapes them out of the spotify web player, if an export isn't available.
Meh - have been trying this and it's pretty badly executed compared to what is available out there (Spotify, Rdio and even iTunes). It's cool to have it free as part of Prime, but I think in this case Spotify's free product, even if with ads, wins hands down.
Interesting that Prime has become a Netflix and Spotify competitor in one while still also heavily marketing the 2-day shipping aspect. Confusing as to what Prime actually is. It's basically Amazon Premium at this point.
I feel like I'm not alone in the fact that I subscribe to Prime for the faster/free shipping but stream their movies (and now theoretically music) because I'm already a subscriber and it's free/included. Never really think of them as a direct competitor to other streaming services.
