I cofounded and recently launched Rye - an eCommerce API that lets developers add new revenue streams for their products by adding eCommerce and checkout into any app or website. Ask me anything about Rye, entrepreneurship, eCommerce, and crypto. I'll be answering questions on Friday, the 14th of October!

It's a good idea, canceling the intermediate links, and the management is also very good A16z and solana venture.

Hey Justin! I'm a total novice. Can you give a real life example of how and why a business would take advantage of rye instead of working with, say, Shopify to enable their eccomerce capabilities? Maybe these are apples and oranges and I'm missing the plot here. Need help! A rye-for-dummies overview would be really helpful. Thanks!

Additional question: In what way is rye's unlock similar to or different than just a cleaner/easier drop shipping experience?
Justin Kan
@mistermills I think that business would use Shopify as their main ecommerce marketplace. Rye could be another channel to drives sales on top of it.

What is the your most impactful productivity hack? How do evaluate ideas?

What do you think about TikTok's eCommerce initiative in the USA? Can they compete on a large scale with Amazon or Shopify? FYI, they're building a full-stack solution from fulfillment centers to the software platform.
Justin Kan
@rempact it could be smart! Creators are going to be the main way people discover products now... and tiktok is part of that.

Put in my application for CoS at Rye. Is there a sense of urgency for hyper-growth or do you plan on taking a "longer runway" approach? Also, is GOAT Capital in need of any CoS? Really keen on learning more about business operations from a VC vantage point.
Justin Kan
@karachlyn long runway. I think slow and steady with a focus on customer needs is the way to go. You can't force hypegrowth.

What are your views on maximizing value in the world with a traditional startup (C Corp) vs a "social enterprise" vs a nonprofit. Thank you for all the value you've created in my life and the world to date 🙏
Justin Kan
@spencer_carlson1 I think non profits are generally designed not to be self sustaining which is a huge problem for how big they can get. I like the idea of doing social enterprises that are commercial but with a mission.

How would you summarize your experience going from B2C (Justin.tv, Twitch) to B2B (Rye)? For example what's the big standout differences in the spaces? Do you enjoy it more? differently?
Justin Kan
@rnhieu I like learning about new things. To me businesses are just exploring different markets. B2B is easier to tell if you are building something of value (people are paying for it).
