The compliance question that almost killed our enterprise deployment, and what we did
Specific story because the lesson generalised.
Mid-deployment with a regional bank. Three weeks before go-live. Their compliance lead asked one question: 'If the model logs a customer's PII into its training data via prompt feedback, are we in violation of GDPR?'
Nobody on our side had a clean answer. Their answer determined whether the project shipped.
What we did:
- Built PII detection and masking at the prompt input layer, not just output
- Logged prompts to an isolated, encrypted store with 30-day rolling deletion
- Confirmed with their DPO in writing before go-live
The lesson, compliance questions aren't pass/fail. They're design constraints that can rewire your architecture if you don't think about them early.

That is a tough one to discover three weeks before go live...
Has this changed the first set of questions you ask a new enterprise client before you even start designing the workflow?
@daria_brown Thanks Daria, "tough one to discover three weeks before go live" is honestly the understatement of the year. We were sweating through that whole compliance review meeting and still get anxiety flashbacks when a new client mentions the word "audit."
To your question, yes it completely changed how we start now. First 3 questions we ask before designing anything: (1) which regulations apply to your data, (2) where does that data need to physically live, (3) who owns the audit trail. We used to save these for later "so we don't scare buyers off," but the real cost of skipping them is losing the deal 6 weeks in, not upfront. Compliance-first scoping actually speeds up sales for us now.
@nolan_vu That makes a lot of sense. I like the point that asking those questions early can actually speed up sales. The audit trail question is especially interesting
Would be nice to keep in touch. Is there an email or maybe some other channels I can reach you at?
@daria_brown
Thanks for the kind words Daria, and yeah that audit trail question trips up more teams than people admit, glad it resonated. Happy to keep in touch, feel free to drop a note at info@aihive.global or just ping me here anytime, whichever's easier for you.
Really appreciate you following the thread this closely, means a lot. Would love to have you keep an eye on AI Hive as we grow too, feedback like yours is exactly what helps us build the right things: https://www.producthunt.com/products/ai-hive
