USB-C THE LIGHT

The EU and Apple are frenemies once again. France has ordered Apple to pull iPhone 12 from sales for emitting too much electromagnetic radiation. Not the headline Apple wants to see after its big Wanderlust event, but weā€™re already headed to the garbage bin with our Lightning cable, so weā€™ll just pile it in.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT
ā€œJust one more thingā€¦ā€

You can finally throw away your worn-out Lightning cables, friends.

Yesterday was Appleā€™s Wanderlust event and despite everyone knowing it was coming, USB-C cables emerged as one of the biggest stars of the shows. For better or worse, Apple made the change from Lightning because the EU passed legislation requiring them to do it.

Say goodbye to your volume switch, too. The new iPhones will come with a multifunction Action switch instead.

Beyond the switch up, people are buzzing most about the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plusā€™s camera improvements. The phones feature a 48MP camera for super-high-resolution photos. iPhone uses a total of three optical zoom levels. The iPhone 15 Pro Max also features a 5x optimal zoom at 120mm ā€” the longest optical zoom ever on iPhone devices. Great.

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra are coming too, in new colors that made us wish we had them for the Barbie premiere. People are also excited about the new feature that enables a double tap gesture to allow users to control their watch with one hand, without touching the display.

Apple also spent a lengthy segment of its event highlighting its commitments to sustainability. Apple says its new Apple Watches are carbon neutral products. To make that possible, Apple is ditching leather in its products too.

We had a ton of fun following along with the event, as we always do. Perhaps Appleā€™s biggest gift to us each event is the memes to follow for days to come.
