Apple offered a free trial and got me hooked. I've been paying the equivalent of $2 a month for access to unlimited number of songs. After a while, I gravitated to using the Radio and Playlists features for music discovery. Sharing sucks though.

If you're looking for some fresh music from not very popular bands I strongly recommend playlists of Sofar Sounds. It's a global initiative and it works like this: people are organizing small, intimate concerts in secret places. They record it and publish the videos on youtube.
