Write emails with the help of AI and send them with an API call. E-mail shouldn't be so difficult.
Volamail is an open source email editor and provider. It can be self-hosted on any AWS account and it features AI-based editing functionalities to painlessly achieve any email layout you can think of.

This sounds pretty interesting, Luca! I love the focus on collaboration with email, but I'm curious about the capabilities of the AI in terms of customizability. Can users tailor the AI suggestions, or is it more of a one-size-fits-all approach? Also, how do you plan to prioritize feedback during the beta phase? Looking forward to trying it out!

This just feels like another AI email tool, we've already got stuff like Mailgun and SendGrid and they're more polished, also adding AI just complicates things more, who needs that half-baked feature anyway?

I'm not really sure why anyone would need AI to write emails when tools like Mailchimp and Sendinblue already do similar things, isn't this just complicating something that should be simple, and honestly the whole self-hosting part on AWS sounds like a hassle, who has time for that, what are you guys really aiming for here, and why should we use this over existing tools?
@elevoceo
hey, good question! it's hard to articulate with just a few words, but this wasn't born as an AI thing at all. this was started like every other email builder that you find online, with a drag and drop editor and rich text support. the thing is, we were annoyed at the UX of creating emails that way, and we started experimenting with prompting LLMs and it turns out they're actually really good at this.
we actually found it's much "simpler" to just ask an AI for what you want instead of having to learn a bulky UI interface with a visual editor, despite our efforts to keep it plain. we have been dogfooding Volamail with itself and with other products for a while, and the speed at which we iterate over designs is much quicker compared to what we used before. you're free to not believe me on this!
regarding self-hosting on AWS, that's just an option! volamail is a fully cloud hosted platform like any other, but if you care about data being truly yours and local you have the option to host it yourself. some enterprise companies really care about this stuff, no one wants to be bound to a single cloud provider that costs you a ton of money.
hope you'll reconsider giving it a try in the future, thanks for the feedback!

I get that you’re pushing for innovation but do we really need AI for everything? It feels like we're just adding more complexity to something that should be simple, and I'm a bit skeptical about the open source part, let's see how it goes 🤔

Do we really need another AI tool for emails, feels like we're just adding more layers of complexity, what's next, AI for writing text messages?
@fullstackexpert8
hey! good point, i'm generally in this position as well when it comes to AI. it's hard to articulate with just a few words, but i'll try!
this project was actually started as a block-based email editor with rich text editing capabilities. this wasn't ai at all! we just wanted to have good, simple email templates. the thing is when we started experimenting with ai prompting we found out we could put our designs into practice much more quickly than we could in either rich text-based tools or full interface designers like many of our competitors.
you're free to not believe me on this, but we're not trying to "make something with ai" just for the sake of it, we tried to make something without it! but the speed of AI at iterating on email designs just seemed to beat everything else.
writing email-compatible html has a lot of nuances and has pretty much become a "compile-target" by now, which we think is a very good job for LLMs, especially given that they are very good at generating code.
we've been dogfooding Volamail with itself and with other products we have. all the emails that Volamail sends you are created within its own editor, so we use it daily. if this seems like just-another-ai-product-to-get-vc-funding™ then it's our job to make the UX benefit clearer. we need to better demonstrate what our day-to-day usage looks like and how it helps compared to other approaches.
thanks a lot for the feedback, hope you'll reconsider giving it a shot in the future!

Luca, I see the idea behind your email tool but it kinda feels like a mix of what Mailgun and SendGrid offer but with the AI twist, I'm curious how it stacks up against those giants, also wondering if you've thought about any kind of spam protection or deliverability features cause most AI-generated stuff tends to get flagged a lot, looking forward to see how this grows and if it could genuinely ease emailing.
