First, hiring people can be hard and sometimes on a full time basis can be difficult on the budget. There are so many areas of expertise that new and growing companies need but its hard to justify a full time salary but you still want the candidate embedded in your organization, the team discussions, collaboration, the culture which is hard to do with contractors who work more on a project basis and less in a leadership capacity. Second, previously working in corporate and having hired over 100+ leaders in my career, I found the hiring process to be cumbersome, lengthy and full of holes. Normally you have to write a JD, then get HR to post it, filter them, see 20-30 profiles, more than 70% are never a good fit and the process repeats itself. Why? The filter process is broken.
