it's so cool, How it works? How was this idea discovered
Dylan Ooi
@hugec Thank you for the support! Fact Check works by searching the web for results relating to your query and reading the first 5 relevant articles, summarizing it for you and delivering the insights right to your tab. I originally thought of the idea whilst scrolling through Reddit on my desktop and realizing that a lot of people don’t actually check up on articles (and comments) that they read. So I designed fact check for web browsers and researchers to instantaneously do that all for you so that you can remain in the know with minimal effort Let me know what you think of it!

Nice idea! 💯 I'll give it a try shortly. Congratulations on the launch @dylan_ooi 🚀
Dylan Ooi
@ninad_1607 Thanks Ninad, looking forward to hear what you think of it!
Kyrylo Silin
This sounds incredibly useful, Dylan! How does Fact Check gather and verify the information it provides? Also, is there a way for users to report inaccuracies or suggest improvements directly through the extension? Excited to try it out and see how it can streamline my research process!
Dylan Ooi
@kyrylosilin Hey Kyrylo, It's simple! Fact Check reads the first 5 search results relevant to your enquiry and summarizes the information from those sources. It's a bit like how you or I might research something! The sources it reads are also included in the pop-up for your further reading. Currently, there isn't a mechanism for reporting inaccuracies, but now that you mention it - that's a great idea. I'm constantly iterating Fact Check, and that will be a feature I'll be adding very soon! Thanks for being part of the journey :)

All the best for the launch @dylan_ooi

@parekh_tanmay Thank you Tanmay, appreciate the well wishes

This is a great idea! Curious how the search works? Does it search the exact text you highlighted? For your example about Pakistan, would the search be biased at all? i.e. would it only return articles stating 52 degrees, thus thinking that it's true even if it might not be?
Dylan Ooi
@evanletz That's a good point Evan. Currently searches are based on the exact text highlighted, which like you point out, may lead to bias. Currently this is mitigated by expanding the amount of articles which Fact Check reads, but in the future I'm looking to make searches based on question sentiment which would eliminate this bias Thanks for stopping by and checking Fact Check out - I'm constantly iterating the product so feedback like this is really useful!

That's a great idea! However, a product like this can open up a very interesting discussion. Mainly, how do you let the AI determine what is fake news and what is real? If a lot of humans fall for it, how do you make a language model determine "the truth"? Anyway, I love the idea, and you definitely have a product-market fit! 😄
Dylan Ooi
@andres_vlaeminck Andres this is a really interesting point which I'm glad you brought up. The idea is that by reading enough articles, we can combine the information to create a well-informed answer (much like how you or I might research something). It's feedback which I've gotten a lot and always leads to interesting discussions of how we truly come to decide whether something is the truth or not. Philisophical stuff! Thanks for stopping by and checking it out, I'm glad you like it
