Reviewers see Xmind as a polished, dependable mind-mapping tool that is easy to use over the long term, with repeated praise for its clean interface, stable performance, and clear maps. Several say it helps them move from brainstorming into structured project planning, and returning project features like Gantt charts are a notable plus. A founder from
Buffup.AI specifically highlights dates, Gantt, and task nodes. Main complaints are practical: awkward or limited hotkeys, occasional web app access issues, and cloud storage connections that need reconnecting.
Xmind turns 20 this year, and they've just released Xmind 2027 with a pretty interesting upgrade.
Most AI mind mapping tools generate a map from a prompt. Xmind is taking it a step further with Xmind Agent.
You can start with your own notes, documents, or an existing mind map, then work with AI to research ideas, explore different perspectives, and keep refining the map as you go.
They've also added MCP support, so you can access and update your mind maps directly from ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI tools.
I like the direction here. Instead of just helping you organize what you already know, Xmind is trying to help you figure things out along the way.
Worth checking out if you use mind maps for research, planning, or brainstorming.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋 Thanks @justin2025 for hunting us today.
Ideas rarely arrive fully formed. You gather information, question an assumption, and reconsider what matters. We wanted Xmind to take a more active part in that process, while keeping you in charge of the direction.
Today, we’re sharing Xmind 2027, with Xmind Agent at the heart of the release.
Start with an idea, your own documents, or a map you’ve already been working on. Xmind Agent uses that context to research a topic, explore alternatives with you, and refine your map through conversation.
We’ve also improved how AI organizes and presents information visually. Agent can choose structures and layouts that fit your content, then help you adjust them as your thinking develops. For example, you might compare two approaches in a matrix, then reorganize the comparison around the costs, constraints, or trade-offs that matter to you.
When you’re ready to move forward, Xmind lets you turn topics into tasks, track progress, and present directly from your map.
If you already work in tools like ChatGPT or Claude, Xmind MCP lets your AI assistant read and update your existing Xmind maps, so you can keep building on the context you’ve already developed.
Xmind turns 20 this year. What continues to matter to us is giving people a way to work through their ideas, with their own judgment guiding the direction.
What would you try first: organizing research, comparing options, or planning a project?
We’re here to answer questions, hear what works, and learn what we should improve. Thanks for taking a look!
@justin2025 @maggie_muller Been living in mind maps for product thinking for years. Most AI map tools just dump a tree from a prompt. The Agent + MCP angle here feels different: you keep the map as the source of truth, and the model works inside that space instead of replacing it.
Curious how well Agent holds structure when the conversation gets messy.
@victoria_wu That’s exactly the workflow we’re aiming for, Victoria. Xmind Agent works with the context of both your conversation and your existing map, drawing on MCP, Skills, and tools like web search as needed to understand, enrich, and organize the information. This keeps individual branches and the overall map clear, coherent, and complete, even as conversations become long and complex.
For larger changes, we recommend breaking the work into a few focused steps. That gives Agent a clear scope at each stage and helps maintain the quality of both the content and the overall structure.
@amrita_prajapati2 Amrita, the original goal remains a central reference for Xmind Agent as the work develops. It uses that goal together with the conversation and the existing map to guide how new information is expanded, grouped, and connected to what’s already there.
As the research grows into more branches, that shared context keeps the content organized around the central question and the relationships between branches visible. The research can go deeper while maintaining a clear direction and a coherent overall structure.
@justin2025 @maggie_muller Can Xmind agent use information from multiple uploaded documents to build a mind map while keeping the sources easy to verify??
@vipul_kumar1280 Yes, Vipul! Xmind Agent can bring information from multiple uploaded documents into a single mind map, drawing out key findings, identifying shared themes, and connecting related ideas.
Source information can be included in the relevant topic notes, making it easier to see where the content came from and check it against the original documents. You get a consolidated view across your materials, with the source context needed to understand and verify important findings.
@justin2025 @maggie_muller Can you ask Xmind agent handle to reorganize an existing map around a completely different angle without losing the usefull details??
@aryan_mehta6 Yes, Aryan! Xmind Agent can reorganize an existing map around a new perspective while preserving the valuable details. For example, a research map organized by competitor can be restructured around customer needs, carrying the relevant data, examples, and supporting insights into the appropriate new branches.
That lets you explore the same research from a different angle while retaining the depth of the work you’ve already done. Give it a try with a map you’re working on—we’d love to hear whether the new structure helps you discover new connections!
@justin2025 @maggie_muller My goodness! 20 years? What a milestone! My question: when someone brings in a messy, half-formed idea, how do you help them avoid the trap of accepting the first “well-organized” map the AI produces?
@swati_paliwal That’s a great question, Swati, and thank you for celebrating our 20th anniversary with us! A tidy map can make a half-formed idea feel more settled than it really is.
That’s why we focus first on the quality of the content. Xmind Agent uses the user’s question and context to develop the key ideas, clarify their relationships, and surface areas that need further exploration, then organizes them into a structure that fits. Our goal is a map with strong, readable content that also makes the open questions visible, giving people a first version that helps their thinking move forward.
Quick question: can I use this agent on my mobile too? coz I always deal with documents on my phone
@jackinlearning96 Hey Jack! Yes, Xmind Agent is already available on Android. Just update your Xmind app to the latest version to try it 🙌 iOS support is coming soon! Your mind maps and Agent chat history sync between desktop and mobile too. Save your maps to My Works and sign in with the same Xmind account, so you can pick up right where you left off!
Quick q: if I drop in my highlights from a book I just finished, does the agent build the map from those, or does it go off and research the topic on its own?
I've used a previous version of XMind and loved it. I wish you the best.
@konstantinos_geo Thank you, Konstantinos! So glad you enjoyed Xmind, and we really appreciate your support 😊 If you give the new Agent a try, we’d love to hear what you think!
Having the same mind map available across devices would be handy. If I start planning on my laptop, does everything sync smoothly when I open it on my phone?
does the agent keep your original branches intact when it suggests new angles, or does it rewrite the map around them?
