I built this out of my own desire for something like HackerNews for state of the art research across academia. So much of the value of HN comes from the consistently smart and thoughtful engagement you see in the comments. So much so that I usually go directly to the comments for any particular post. I want that kind of community for academic research across every domain. High quality discussion is invaluable, and every research platform I've seen fails to facilitate this. I want PaperTalk to change that. I made it to the front page of HN a couple months ago with a less polished version of this app. It's still not perfect yet but I've added a lot of features and fixed many of the bugs found since then. Hope you guys like it. Feedback is much appreciated :D

Hey Stefan, How do you ensure the AI chat provides accurate and helpful insights for each paper? Are there any plans to expand the scope beyond the current disciplines? Congrats on the launch!

@kyrylosilin Hey Kyrylo, Great question. Right now the helpful insight is contingent to a large degree on 1. The AI model used (Claude-haiku for now) 2. The question asked by the user. Point 2 is actually the most significant imo. It's kind of a philosophical point, but it's often the case that asking the right question is more important and more difficult than getting the right answer. I've thought about making the chat operate via buttons that automatically do certain functions (summarize, turn to code, etc.), but of course because of the wide range of topic, value, and complexity of all these papers, this would still be an imperfect solution.
