We chose OpenAI because it consistently strikes the best balance between capability, reliability, and developer experience. The models are strong across reasoning, multimodality, and real-world tasks, but what really stands out is how quickly those advances become usable products.
Beyond model quality, the ecosystem matters: stable APIs, clear documentation, and a fast-moving community make it easier to go from prototype to production. Compared to alternatives, OpenAI feels less like a single model and more like a long-term platform we can confidently build on.
Hey PH community 👋
Excited to hunt LifeVal today.
OpenAI just introduced LifeVal, a new benchmark that measures how well AI handles the everyday tasks people actually want help with, like finding childcare, building a budget, ordering groceries and dealing with government services. They say they've used it for the past year to track and drive improvement in their models, and GPT 6 Astra posts best recorded scores of 100% on tasks like booking a car inspection and ordering groceries within a budget. OpenAI posted a short look at it on X here.
Here's how the community is reacting:
Krish Subramanian thinks enterprises should copy the method, not the scores, and build their own agent evals from ticket queues and process logs: https://x.com/krishnan/status/2117322998881648740
Sarthak wants to see whether better scores turn into reliable help in real situations: https://x.com/sarthaksavvy/status/2117322351541129554
The task list is the part I find most interesting. OpenAI started from the American Time Use Survey and the Multinational Time Use Study, then ran its own survey of 3,995 people to find where they'd most want a personal assistant, so the tasks come from real lives instead of exam questions.
Taking action is the other big idea. LifeVal grades whether the model actually gets the job done through browser use, computer use and connectors, which is the gap between a chat answer and an assistant you'd trust with your errands.
For builders working on agents, it's a useful map of the jobs everyday users care about most.
