Hi Product Hunt! I'm Carter, the maker of Profspect. I built this because I kept hitting the same wall as a community college student trying to transfer. Every term, picking courses meant a weekend of cross-referencing RateMyProfessors, Reddit threads, the course catalog, and articulation guides, and then still feeling like I was guessing. The information was technically out there. It was just scattered across ten tabs and never organized around what I actually cared about. So Profspect does that work for you. You tell it your school, your major, your goals (grade stability, research, workload, schedule, whatever matters to you), and the courses you are weighing. It researches the public record and hands back a scored, source-linked report with a term-by-term plan. Everything is goal-relative and tied to a source: it describes how a course or section tends to run for someone with your goals, and links to where that came from so you can check the receipts. A report is saved research and one input for your decision, so I always tell people to confirm the make-or-break details with their college before they register. Right now I'm running a small, free pilot, and it is invite-only on purpose. I would rather go deep with a handful of students and learn what actually helps than open the doors and guess. Profspect's research engine now runs on Claude Sonnet 5❗️

For anyone new to it, Profspect reads the public record for a specific student (course catalogs, posted syllabi, section schedules, RateMyProfessors, transfer articulation) and turns it into a scored, sourced, term-by-term plan.

The research step is the core of the whole thing, it's where the quality actually lives, so the model running it matters more than any other piece.

hey PH, i'm Carter, a community college student building Profspect

the problem i kept hitting is that every semester you pick classes and professors basically blind. you dig through RateMyProfessors, ask around, cross your fingers, and hope you didn't just land a brutal section. and if you're transferring, one course that doesn't articulate can cost you a whole term.
