Your conversion rate did not fall. Your denominator grew.
Conversion rate is orders divided by sessions. When it drops, almost everyone reaches for the top of that fraction. New photos, new copy, a discount, an agency call. The bottom of the fraction gets no attention at all, because it feels like weather.
It is not weather. Shopify labels every session on your store as human or bot, using all the events across the whole visit. That label is available to you as a dimension called Human or bot session, and as a filter that strips bot sessions out of a report entirely. It is standard analytics, not an app.
Take a demo store. Twelve thousand sessions, two hundred and forty orders, so the dashboard says two percent. Filter to human sessions and there are nine thousand one hundred. Same orders. The rate is 2.64.
Nothing about the store changed between those two numbers.
Now the part that matters more than the number. Shopify says the classification is deliberately conservative, because it is better to miss some bots than to label real customers as bots. So the human bucket still holds bots, which means 2.64 is a floor. Write it with a greater-than-or-equal sign, every time, or you have replaced one wrong number with another.
Ten minutes, and you find out whether you have been fixing a store that was never broken.
