Yodel allows you to make and receive 'oldschool' phone 📞 calls from within Slack. It's actually quite a good fit for a Slack integration because you get a nice cross-platform call log. Another nice feature is that every 'call' also is a URL that you can share with others. Well thought through use cases.

To answer on the mobile you can forward the call to your mobile number with a single click. In addition we will have a mobile app in a few weeks to answer the calls directly.

Phew! I was slightly concerned as to why Yodel was hunted... here in the UK we have a parcel courier/delivery company called Yodel & to put it blunt: they are not good & have a bad reputation! However, a sigh of relief, this isn't them but instead an awesome product! I'm a huge fan of 'old school' phones (and text/SMS - got something in the pipeline that uses text/SMS). Keen to see what my team thinks of this! Congrats!

@colazionearoma Thanks for asking this. We are super happy that Slack started to integrate voice so people get used to make calls via Slack. Slack calls is limited to team communications so you cannot call regular phones. With Yodel you can get phone numbers in over 40 countries. It’s a business phone system that is integrated directly into Slack as a bot. When people call you on your Yodel landline number you can answer the call from Slack. You can even call out from Slack!

@fdorfbauer great question! We use Slack as the user interface wherever possible. We don't only use Slack to make a "call log". We announce calls in a Slack channel and you can answer the call directly from Slack. You can dial out directly from Slack. We also don't have "users/extensions" on Yodel. Everybody that has access to your Slack channel can answer calls. So you don't pay per user. It's a collaborative way to handle phone calls. You can even share the call URL with others … send them the Yodel link via e.g. WhatsApp … they click on it and can answer the call. It's like sharing GIFs :-)

@thomaspamminger thanks for your question … Every phone call in Yodel has a unique URL that you can share with others. So if a colleague currently has no Slack access you send the URL via e.g. WhatsApp. They click on the link and answers the call. Its that easy! We don't charge by users. You can have as many team members using Yodel as you like. What we limit is how many phone calls you can answer at the same time. Our standard plan includes two concurrent calls … but you can add as many as you need.

@a12rj great question! We use Slack as the user interface wherever possible. So you don't have a second application open all day to answer calls. You get the call in Slack. You pick up in Slack. At the moment we only open the browser to talk. If you want to dial out just write /yodel call NUMBER and off you go. Our focus is on all the teams that live in Slack and want to reduce the number of apps they use. We also don't bill you per user but per concurrent calls … this is how many calls you can answer at the same time. Last but not least … you can share calls! Grab the Yodel call link and send it to anybody out there and they can answer right away!

Perfect timing! We were looking for a solution like Yodel recently! Are you planning to add support for other chat solutions (ie. Chatgrape, Hipchat,etc.) or is it Slack only?

I really like the name and design, well done! Can I play announcements and music on hold? Which options do I have?

@mariobreid thanks! You can play a welcome message (audio file or we use text to speech) and music on hold. We also have an option for announcement only. So if somebody calls we play this announcement and then hang up or send them to voicemail (your choice). Some of our users put the number of this announcement only on their website to redirect their visitors to their support system.
