Hey hunters 👋
I'm Kemal, the maker of WunderType.
The problem was simple and personal. I write all day across a dozen apps (Slack, email, Notion, code comments) and I was constantly copy-pasting text into ChatGPT just to fix grammar and tighten it up, then pasting it back. It broke my flow every single time.
So I built WunderType: select text in *any* app, hit a shortcut, and get clean, corrected text back in place. No window-switching, no copy-paste dance.
Here's the thing though. The first version relied on cloud APIs, and a lot of you (rightly) didn't love sending your writing to a server. That feedback completely reshaped where this went.
The big change in this version: On-Device AI. WunderType now runs models *locally* on your Mac's GPU using Apple's MLX framework. Download a model once (around 0.7 to 3 GB), and after that your text never leaves your machine. No API key, no Ollama, no internet. Pick a model during onboarding and go.
I obsessed over making local feel instant. The model warms up at launch and reuses its prepared instructions between corrections, so there's no cold-start lag.
It's still privacy-first by design: no analytics, no telemetry, no backend. Apple Silicon (M1 or later) required for on-device.
Would genuinely love your feedback, especially on which models feel best for your writing. AMA 🙏
