Have you done a samadhi concentration retreat before and any thoughts on how worthwhile a focused concentration practice is to a broader Vipassana practice?
Sam Harris
@bencasnocha I have never done a full retreat devoted to concentration practice. However, given the way vipassana is often taught (e.g. focusing on the breath), it's possible to develop a lot of concentration and keep things very narrow for a very long time. It can be useful to train this way intermittently—just to be sure that your awareness is actually precise. But, ultimately, fixating on any object of mindfulness can become a (dualistic) stumbling block.

Hi Sam. What do you think the relationship is between renunciation and the spiritual life? Does it change depending on whether one is practicing dzogchen or vipassana? How do you see it in your own life?

Sam, thank you for getting this up and running. I’m a big fan of pretty much everything you produce. Question: Are there any significant differences between your take/methodology on mindfulness compared to Joseph Goldstein?
Sam Harris
@yoyoma911 Not really. But we still manage to fight about these things! Listen to our (3?) podcasts together.

@samharrisofficial I'm a grateful beneficiary of the previous-supporters-don't-pay policy, but I'm interested to know how you plan to expand your consuming audience to people who aren't already aware of your podcast— maybe a discount for referring new people, like what my local gym does?

Hello Sam and team, thanks for building this out and the access for supporters. Any plans to integrate with healthkit so meditation minutes can be logged? I know this goes against the intent of the practice, but everything else is logged and I’d like this to be too 😉

Hi Sam, the app is wonderful and I'm really enjoying it. I was wondering if you'd be adding loving-kindness or compassion practices to the app? These practices sound very flowery but I find them to be useful in connecting with and understanding others.
Sam Harris
@dj_roman Very likely.

Hi @samharrisofficial, great app without initial information overload. Do you think that a more analytical meditation is really meditation by definition? Nevertheless, would you say this is helpful for improving decision making? How would you go about it?

Really excited to give this a spin! I've used Oak and Headspace regularly in the past, but always enjoyed the guided meditations @samharrisofficial put out more. Cool that it's now a full program/app

Hi Sam, I saw you in Toronto recently with Greene, great chat. Anyway — How do you plan to split your focus between podcasts, the app, and (hopefully still) - writing books? Do you plan to expand the app beyond just meditation? and if so, how? I think the ethics, and sanity you talk about are very beneficial, and those sorts of moral lessons (example, your book "Lying") lead to more calm, and easier ability to be mindful. I haven't had a chance to look into the app yet, but looking forward to it! Thanks James

I listened to several meditations last night as I was trying to fall asleep. Sam has perfect tone and pacing my o create a meditative headspace. His many years of personal experience really shine through.

Although I have practiced hatha yoga for about 20 years I never got deep into the still forms of meditation-I have long found the meditative within movement.

Yet, I have several Buddhist friends and have always admired their calm collected and deeply still presence.

Following this feeling of respect coupled with my innate curiosity of all things spiritual and the Waking Up podcast (my highest patreon sponsorship goes to it and if you know anything about me you know that's saying something!) I was thrilled to be given the opportunity explore with an invitation to download the app for free.

Thanks @samharrisofficial! I would have paid for it, but these little things mean so much!

To summize-This is a great product. I recommend it highly for new to advanced meditators and the meditative-curious.
