Vitals 1.8.8: Docker disk usage per container, SketchyBar links, and Ukrainian šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦

Hi everyone, Atta here.

I make Vitals, an Activity Monitor alternative for Mac. Here is what’s changed in the last few updates:

Docker: CPU and disk usage per container. The Containers tab already showed memory for each container. Now CPU has its own chart too, so you can see which container spikes. There’s also a new Disk Use card. Docker on a Mac keeps everything in one large disk image, and Finder only shows that one big file. Disk Use shows what’s inside it: images, containers, volumes and build cache, how much each takes, and how much you could reclaim. The numbers match docker system df, so you don’t need a terminal.

Every helper under its app. Some apps install helpers outside their app bundle, like Docker’s vmnetd, Zoom’s, Adobe’s, OBS’s camera extension, and Xcode’s simulator services. These used to show up as rows of their own. Vitals now works out which app each one belongs to, and only groups it under an app signed by the same developer.

vitals:// links, for SketchyBar and custom menu bars. Every tab now has a link, like vitals://open?tab=cpu. A customer wanted to click the CPU readout in their SketchyBar and land on Vitals’ CPU tab. The links work for that, and also from Raycast, Alfred, a Stream Deck, or anything else that can open a URL. With the vitals command and --json, your bar shows the same numbers Vitals does.

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦ Ukrainian. Vitals is now in 13 languages. It uses the same words macOS does, as Activity Monitor does in Ukrainian.

Pruning Docker images, volumes, and build cache from the same card is next on the roadmap.

I wrote up the details here, including a SketchyBar setup you can copy:

If you run Docker on a Mac, what would you want to clean up first?
