Created a working prototype in a weekend using vibe-coding, followed by three weeks fixing it
Created the initial iteration of Driftline, a habit tracking app with a strange twist in which the rate of streak decay is reduced on weekends, all but building the entire thing by prompting my way through it. Truly amazing how quickly this prototype was put together. Presented to twelve people, received genuine interest.
When I tried to add a second feature, however, things began to fight me back. There was state spread out over four components without ownership, and half of the styles were inline because that is the quickest way that they were generated. Ended up having to do an entire rewrite of the data layer before anything else.
Don't want to complain about the tools; I know the speed is legit and helped to get to a validated state quicker than otherwise would have been possible. Just wonder what goes into deciding when enough vibe coding is done and it is time to sit down and write it by hand.
