Hey Product Hunt! πŸ‘‹ Louis here, co-founder of Upstream.

When I was at Algolia, I was drowning in 200 emails a day. I was never sure where to focus, and getting through my inbox took forever. I knew it didn’t have to be this way. Instead of creating a new messaging protocol, I bet on rethinking the tool everyone uses: email.

We built the first email client where agents do real work alongside people. We designed Upstream to be easy to pick up and fun to use.Β

πŸ“₯ Take the noise out of email
Agents automatically triage your inbox, separate signal from noise, and surface only what deserves your attention

✍️ Every reply starts with a draft
Upstream drafts replies for every conversation that needs one. It also changes your voice based on who you’re talking to and the context of the convo

⏰ Never miss a follow-up
Agents track open loops and remind you when needed, making sure important conversations don't fall through the cracks

πŸ”Ž Ask anything about your work
AI can instantly find information across your inbox and connected tools: receipts, meeting notes, introductions, decisions, conversations, and more

πŸ”— Bring all your context into your inbox
Agents use information from tools like Notion, Calendar, Drive, Granola, and other sources to produce better answers and drafts

πŸ‘‰ As a special thank you to the Product Hunt community, you get one free month of Upstream Pro if you sign up at and use the code PH26! πŸ‘ˆ

We are all so excited to hear what you think! Please do reply here and let me knowΒ

Huge thanks to our hunter for hunting us πŸ™

Β  Congrats on the launch πŸš€

Β Thanks so much!

Β  Β thanks πŸ™πŸΎ

Β  Β Thanks, it means a lot! πŸ™

thanks a lot! ❀️

Β  Β Congrats on the launch! Definitely using.

Β Thanks Jens! πŸ™

Β  Β  Β πŸ™πŸΎπŸ™πŸΎ

Β  Β  Β thanks!

Β The amount of work that goes into a launch like this is seriously underrated. Most people only see the announcement not the late nights, the pivots, the doubts. Respect for seeing it through. Stories like yours are exactly why podcast hosts are always looking for real founders to feature, not just polished speakers.

Β I appreciate that sentiment. There was definitely a concentrated effort by the entire team!

Β  Β effort, to say the least!

Β  Β  Β yeah we worked quite hard on this !

Thanks for your words ! To be fair, there were definitely a few moments where we thought, "if someone had told us it'd need so much work" πŸ˜…

Seeing people actually use the product makes all the chaos worth it

Β  Β i totally agree :)

Β  Β I saw Jon work night and day haha

Yes πŸ˜…

Β  Β Congrats on the launch man! loved trying it

Β Thanks so much for giving Upstream a try!

Thanks  for signing up and testing the product 😊

Β  Β  Β love hearing that!

Came over from Superhuman and haven’t looked back, the drafts actually sound like me. Congrats!

Β Glad to have you on Upstream! Any features requests you have in mind?

Β Build a calendar app too :)

Β What would be the top features you'd want? πŸ€“

Β  Β calendar app is a big one haha!

Β knowing your high standards Mat it means a lot coming from you! What do you think is Upstream's most differentiating feature compared with SH?

Β that’s so awesome! Thanks for giving us a shot

Β Appreciate it!

Β Welcome aboard, Matthieu - thanks a lot!

Really loving the product so far! I barely need to adjust the drafts Upstream generates.
The only thing I’d love to see improved is smoother switching between mailboxes without opening a new tab each time.

Β I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying Upstream! Would a shortcut to switch mailboxes be helpful or do you have another idea of what would work best for you?

Β just when I switch from the top right button to another mailbox that is already open in another window, it opens this window instead of a new one. I often get 6+ windows open.
A keyboard shortcut could be cool too.

Β Got it, so switching mailboxes, but staying in the same tab would be the optimal experience?

Β  Β great feedback, thanks Vivien!

thanks for the feedback Vivien. I'm glad you love the product

Β Thank you so much for this feedback! We'll improve on this. As I built this part, I want to fix it πŸ˜…

Β thanks for feedback! Good point, and we have this on our radar

Β Thanks Vivien! Noted πŸ™

Β  Β And it's now in prod πŸ”₯

Where do you guys draw the autonomy line on triage vs sending? Those two might fail completely differently IMO. Anyways, great work!

Β We think that you should make the final decision when it comes to sending. For triage we automatically sort what needs reply and what needs a follow up. But we allow you to completely customize the prompts.

What's your take on what should be autonomous vs manual?

the fact that an agent can never send a message without your approval is a core principle of Upstream that I personally hold very dear ❀️

Β respectfully noted, thanks!

The voice-matching per audience is what caught my eye β€” does it learn over time from how you edit the drafts, or is it mostly set from the initial analysis?

Β Right now it’s mostly set from the initial audience analysis. However, the tone of the drafts do change according to the context of the thread.

That said, learning from how you edit drafts is definitely on our roadmap. It’s the natural next step: the more you tweak tone, phrasing, and structure for a given audience, the better Upstream should get at matching that voice over time.

I would add that each time we generate a draft we use your most recent conversations with the recipient in question to generate the reply, so if you tweak the drafts they will naturally converge toward the writing style you use for a given recipient

Β The agentic drafts are definitely one of the strengths of upstream. This, plus the fact you can integrate it other data sources like notion or google drive makes for excellent drafts!

yeah good point , for now this is google drive and notion but later potentially with 1000s of sources so that agents have full context

I just want to thank everyone for the time they took out of their day to support us and cheer us on. Because of you we won Product of the Day. This means a lot as truly believe in making email something you can enjoy. I can’t wait for everything that’s to come! Thanks again 🧑 Shout out to the whole team

Nobody on the team has spent more time thinking about how email should feel than Joseph (). A huge part of why people enjoy using Upstream is because of his work ❀️
Thank you Joseph πŸ™

thank you so much for driving this whole Product Hunt launch. So well deserved 🧑 Product of the Day is on you and the energy you brought to this all week. Grateful to be building this with you and the team. Onto what's next 🐟

Β  Β Can't agree more louis, you're the MVP !

Love your promise! Out of curiosity: every other email tool say they sound like me these days, what makes you claim you are better here?

Β As soon as you join, Upstream creates a custom writing agent that analyzes writing style, tonal shifts, lowercase usage, abbreviations, greetings, sign offs, and more for each audience. We also adjust the tone of AI drafts depending on the context of the current conversation. On top of that you can even customize the prompt to fine-tune exactly how you want to sound.

I couldn't have said it better! :)

So cool ! if I sign up for this, is my data private? Do you use it to train AI models?

Β Thanks for giving us a try!

Your data is completely private and is only used to power your Upstream experience, like drafting in your voice, classifying your inbox, and answering your questions in chat. It is never used to train shared AI models.

Β  Also a quick note: we're CASA Tier 2 certified

Β πŸ›‘οΈ

Looking sleek. I haven't been able to manage my inbox since Google discontinued Inbox πŸ’” so I might try upstream. Tech has changed, time for my 999+ unread emails to go.

Β Yes, give Upstream a go! We'd love to hear your feedback πŸ˜„

I used to love Google Inbox too, but now I enjoy doing email 100x more with Upstream 😏

Β big same with Inbox. I think you’ll enjoy Upstream :)

Β Appreciate it! Would love your feedback once you try it

Β Thank you so much for considering upstream πŸ₯°

well-crafted enough that email feels light, fast, fun is a strong claim for a category where almost every alternative feels like a chore by design. curious what specifically makes it feel that way day to day, is it mostly the agent doing less for you to look at, or is there an actual interaction/interface difference, animations, speed, layout, that contributes independently of the AI features. those are separable and it'd be useful to know which one is doing the heavy lifting

Β We actually spend time on both the agent automation and the UX/design. They are separate elements, but we think of them holistically in order to make email feel fast and fun. Give Upstream a try and let us know your thoughts and how it makes you feel πŸ™‚

For me personally the biggest difference isn’t drafting emails faster. It’s opening the inbox and immediately knowing what deserves attention and what doesn’t. That sounds like a small thing, but it changes the experience quite a bit day to day.

Β Thank you so much Ansari!
