What is the Weissman score for it?

Why do you compare yourself to ImageOptim and show that the results of that app are better then yours? https://tppr.me/S35lP
computer
@patrickloonstra look at the time elapsed, smarty pants
Binyamin Goldman
@patrickloonstra If you look, they are marginally better but take about 3x longer

@bzg0515 Good that you accnolish that, a cup of coffee will solve that also.

@patrickloonstra no need to continue condescending comments, especially when they make yourself look even more out of touch. Just stop commenting next time you clearly make a mistake :-)

@bzg0515 Sorry man, that was absolutely not the intention.

Right away I tested this against the other image compressors I already have installed — ImageOptim, Squash, Optimage, and JPEGmini. The results were, well… to be fair Aerate JUST got here. So let's give it time. I recorded my screen for the test, here's that: http://cozy.es/lGv9Jc (still uploading) I left all apps with fairly even, middleground settings. I did two tests, one on a folder of 5 PNGs, the other on a test of 5 JPGs (photos of my office). The results: PNGs Original: 1 mb Aerate: 771 kb ImageOptim: 427 kb Optimage: 423 kb Squash: 1 mb (boo) JPGs Original: 16.2 mb Aerate: 10.3 mb ImageOptim: 2.6 mb Optimage: 7.4 mb Squash: 9.4 mb JPEGmini: 8.8 mb I don't feel like getting out my stop watch, but suffice it to say they were all pretty close in how long these little tests took, with Squash and Optimage being clearly slower on the JPGs. And Aerate's interface doesn't let you start the next batch of optimizations until you've cleared the current batch, unlike the rest. And I hit some sort of strange error in trying to save the files (and it's unclear to me if the files are saved automatically over top of the originals, or not). So, some hiccups early, but I'll keep an eye on this space.

The dev gifted me a license, so now I'm re-trying on Pro, with multicore turned on. Aerate on Fast was nearly instant on both tests (that's crazy for the JPG test). Results: PNGs Aerate Fast: 753 kb Aerate Extreme: 728 kb JPGs Aerate Fast 10.1mb Aerate Extreme: 10.1 mb again So: * The multi-core makes a huge difference. Whoa. Crazy fast. * "Fast" seems to be the setting to go with (that's what the dev told me he prefers) * Overall file sizes are still larger than ImageOptim (the apparent king of the hill) or, really, anyone else. Also: this test is super limited. Obviously.

@pierreroberge Hi Pierre, could you please tell me which macOS you are on and what version you were using? (ie, App Store or Direct)
Cristian Manafu
@pierreroberge Same here! MacBook Pro / MacOs 10.14.2 / Direct download
Binyamin Goldman

@bzg0515 Hi Binyamin! How do I apply one of the free licenses? I only see options to buy and not a box to input a license key.
Binyamin Goldman
@chad_fullerton All the licensees have been used, however I may give more away on twitter soon @bzgoldman
Evgeny Kopytin
@bzg0515 Not work code

This seems like a great option for web purpose. I tried some bulk compression, it is a tiny bit slower than expected with PNGs but it works pretty well. I download it from the Mac App Store and there is no place to put the licenses codes in the app. Good work !
Batt Jks
Licenses code doesn't work :/
Ton
@battjks they did work as far as I can tell, but they're all gone.
Binyamin Goldman
@battjks @t55 Indeed all taken

Tried on macOS Mojave and crashed when I tried to switch quality mode. Not a good experience here.
Binyamin Goldman
@jameskoss Hi James, this is unusual. Were you prompted to submit a crash report on next launch?
Binyamin Goldman
@jameskoss hey again, fix now available, and must be downloaded again bzgapps.com/aerate. Apologies for the inconvenience.
colorlavie
App crash when clicking on any button... so can't test app and codes 😢
Binyamin Goldman
@colorlavie hi there, what macOS are you running?
colorlavie
@bzg0515 Thanks for replying. Same thing on High sierra and Catalina.
Binyamin Goldman
@colorlavie Could you contact me at bzgapps.com/support to discuss further?
Binyamin Goldman
