What building BeforeYouAgree taught me about how casually people sign contracts

byβ€’

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a product called BeforeYouAgree, which is focused on helping people understand contracts better. While building it, one thing that really stood out to me was how casually most people deal with legal documents.

When I started testing with real documents like offer letters and agreements, I noticed how often people (including me earlier) just skim long paragraphs because they look too formal or complicated. Even when something sounds important, the wording is usually dense enough that people assume it's standard and move on.

One interesting insight for me was realizing that the real challenge isn't just detecting risky lines β€” it's presenting information in a way that makes people actually pause and read.

Building this made me more careful personally as well. Now whenever I see long clauses, I try to slow down instead of assuming it's all boilerplate.

Still early in the journey, but it's been eye-opening to see how much behavior plays a role in whether people notice risks or ignore them.
