Validating an idea: gifting subscriptions for AI tools

Hey everyone!

I’m currently validating a small idea that came from a personal frustration: you can’t gift most AI tools.

There’s no way to give someone a month of ChatGPT Pro, Cursor, Gemini, etc.

For tools that devs and AI-people use every day, it feels like an oddly missing feature.

So I’m exploring whether there’s real demand for a simple service that would let you gift AI/SaaS subscriptions.

The concept is super straightforward:

choose a tool → choose a duration → receive a gift code → send it to a friend/colleague.

What I’ve done so far:

  • put up a basic landing page to capture early interest

  • describing the idea and collecting initial feedback

  • began prototyping the initial workflow

Right now I’m mostly trying to understand whether the core pain is real.

I’d love your thoughts:

  • Would you ever gift an AI tool to someone?

  • Which tools feel “gift-worthy” to you personally?

  • Am I missing an obvious reason why gifting isn’t supported?

  • Does this sound like a real use case or a niche itch?

If you’re curious, here’s the idea page:

For me, tools like ChatGPT Pro, Claude, Perplexity, Notion AI, and even Cursor feel gift-worthy because they’re things people genuinely use daily. And honestly, I can’t think of a strong reason why gifting isn’t already built in… maybe companies don’t see it as a major acquisition channel yet? But I think there’s definitely a use case here. Even I’d want to be gifted a few subscriptions during the holidays or when being onboarded into tech/AI. How would the redemption flow work? Would it activate immediately, or let the recipient choose when to start their month? I've just joined your waitlist too 😊

Appreciate the comment — and thanks for joining the waitlist!

My current thinking is a simple gift-code system, ideally with support or integration on the tool’s side (ChatGPT, Cursor, etc.).

That way the recipient can choose when to activate it, instead of the subscription starting immediately.

But this is still early validation, so the exact flow might change depending on how different AI tools prefer to handle gifting or temporary access.
