I built a 3D printing design engine to help my partner’s business
Hey Product Hunt!, I'm Facundo, a developer and 3D printing enthusiast from Argentina.
My partner runs a jewelry and 3D printing business, and we both share a passion for gardening. Recently, she started designing and selling printed planters.
The products sold great, but the design process was a nightmare. Software like Blender, Cinema4D, or Fusion360 is incredibly powerful, but it's just too complex and time-consuming for a casual user who just wants to design and sell products. Every time she wanted a new design, she either had to watch hours of tutorials or ask me for help.
Seeing her frustration, I decided to code a simple tool to help her generate her own models in minutes. After a few iterations, it worked so well that I realized: if this is saving us hours of headaches, it could probably help other makers too.
I researched the market and found a few "vase generators" (like MakerWorld's Make My Vase), but they were all very casual toys. There was nothing truly professional or scalable for people running an actual business.
So, I took my 15+ years of experience in UI/UX and web design and decided to take my initial tool to the next level.
The result is GerminaGen — a professional parametric generator focused entirely on efficiency, flawless 3D printing, and streamlining the business workflow.
Because my partner and I use it almost every single day for our own business, the engine has gone through endless internal iterations. It’s incredibly mature, battle-tested, and has zero learning curve.
We set it up with a structure that makes sense for the community:
🌱 Free: Enough STL downloads for casual users making items for their own home. 🛠️ Maker Plan: For small businesses. It pays for itself by selling just 1 or 2 planters. Immediate ROI. 🏭 Business Plan: For print farms and experienced sellers ready to scale their catalogs to the next level.
I'm getting ready to launch here on Product Hunt tomorrow and just wanted to share our origin story with the community.
Has anyone else here built a SaaS or product to solve a specific problem for a partner or family member? I’d love to hear your stories!
