What should a UI component feel like in your hand?
by•
I'm launching Tactile UI here on 1 November: UI components that behave like the hardware they're drawn from.
An odometer that actually carries (1,099 to 1,100 rolls three drums over together), knobs that click into detents, lamps that only light when they mean something.
Before launch day I'd love opinions from people who build interfaces:
1. Is there a control you've always wished felt more physical on the web?
2. Detents on a knob: helpful, or just noise?
3. Sound on interaction: never, opt-in, or on by default?
Every object is free to play at tactileui.dev with a free sign-in, and the home page plays them for everyone, so you can push the pieces around before answering. Honest takes welcome, including "this is pointless".
