A nice alternative, are you supporting an ability to add Sign-in providers like firebase?
Ant Wilson
hey @nazar_nazar , we are still designing our client side auth model but we very much want it to be as easy to use if not easier than firebase, more news on this soon, thanks for checking us out
Nazar Kvyatkovsky
@antwilson Good luck guys 👍

Without a hosted option, perhaps you're missing the target market for Firebase? The whole point of Firebase is to NOT have to manage servers. Now there's a lot to like about Supabase as a lower cost replacement for Pubnub/Pusher. The functions integration looks super sweet too. Upvoted and will investigate as a low-cost realtime server!
kiwicopple
@rayliverified we have a hosted option! Over at https://app.supabase.io
Kristian Gerardsson
@rayliverified That's not the only/"whole" point of Firebase :P Some ppl (including me) would be willing to manage a server
Ray Li
@copple Yay! Thanks for having that available for testing :)

?makers Looks nice. Any plans for when you will be out of alpha/beta?
Ant Wilson
@kitemaker hard to give an exact date but we are building none-stop so will hopefully reach a v1 soon. In the mean time we are offering data backups and will be offering master-slave replicas very soon

Great work! I'll add this to https://opensource.builders as a Firebase alternative.

@openshiporg thanks - awesome site!
Csaba Kissi
Cool. Does it work only with Postgres ? No MySQL support planned in the future?
kiwicopple
@csaba_kissi We're only Postgres (and no planned support for MySQL) simply because there are a lot of features that we would give up if we try to build for two databases. But we promise we'll make the switch easy!

Hi, @copple - Whats the advantage over Hasura? I've been using Hasura and really love it. Thanks!
kiwicopple
@sarav1n Yeah Hasura is great. We have a different approach to a few things that we are building - specifically the way we handle real-time and (soon) auth and UX. Our platform is designed to get you going quickly too (you can sign up and query your database in less than 2 mins). Otherwise, Hasura a great tool and it deserves all the love it gets
sarav
@copple Thanks, would love to read about the advantages if you can reference any docs etc.
kiwicopple
@sarav1n We'll definitely make something like this in the future. We're 5 months old so a lot of our differences are "coming soon". Once we've built everything we'll write up a good comparison to make it easier for developers to decide. Both are great options for developers, and having more options will be a huge win for the OSS community.

Looks cool. How do you handle ACL & security?
kiwicopple
@amitava82 good quesiton. We want to nail the auth and we're looking at leveraging Postgres' native Row Level Security. This is a tricky task to "generalize" for all businesses but it's our biggest focus. From there, we can leverage PostgreSQL's user and role system. This means no lock-in if you want to migrate away - just take your database with you

I'm very excited about this. Can't wait to try it out!
kiwicopple
@grahampark we're in alpha now in case you're brave (https://app.supabase.io)
Jamie Barton
This looks cool! Superb work on the marketing site, makes me want to get stuck in and try out the product.
Ant Wilson
@notrab go for it! If you sign up now you'll automatically be included in our alpha community, and receive new features before anyone else. Thanks for checking us out!
Juan Valdez
Lovely
Ant Wilson
@juanvaldez2 thanks Juan!
