As a homesteader, I noticed a huge gap in how we connect to buy, sell, and trade our goods. Traditional platforms like Facebook Marketplace actively ban animal and livestock sales, and general classifieds are too cluttered. Many of us have surplus eggs, seedlings, or livestock, but no reliable, dedicated way to reach the right community locally. That’s what inspired Stock & Sprout! The problem I wanted to solve was simple - phase 1: give homesteaders and local farmers a dedicated, localized marketplace to sustain their businesses and lifestyles. Phase 2: show consumers how many small farms and homesteads are located within a few miles of their house, and show them that they can buy fresh produce, meat, and poultry without overpaying at the grocery store for low quality highly processed food. While building, our approach evolved significantly. What started as a basic idea for a web page grew into a full mobile-ready platform. By listening to users, we realized that geolocation (to find farms nearby) and push notifications (so you never miss a buyer's message) were critical. It grew into a full mobile-friendly hub!
