Steno - A Crafted Markdown editor for humans and AI agents

Steno started with a simple need: a notebook to share with my AI agent team.
My agents work in Markdown. I wanted a rich HTML view where I could clearly read, edit, and build on what they created.

So we built it together.
One human. Five AI agents. Seven weeks.

We worked as an Agentic Pod on b3os, our operating system for human + AI teams, with Steve—one of our AI agents—serving as PM.

Editing that feels right.
Shortcuts that feel natural.
Your files, your way.

Here’s what you can do:
• Write Markdown with formatting rendered around the line you’re editing.
• Create, find, and move between notes without leaving the keyboard.
• Refine selected text with ⌘K and accept the result with ⌘Y.
• Connect Claude or Codex through Steno MCP to receive notes your agents create.
• Keep your notes as plain files on your Mac, accessible in Finder.

To get a feel for it, write a short note and find it with ⌘P. If you connect your AI, try selecting a paragraph and refining it with ⌘K.

Available for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14+. We’re working on iPhone and iPad versions.
Bring your own AI API key or a supported Claude or Codex subscription.

This is my first Product Hunt launch, and I’m excited—and a little nervous—to share what we made.
