Spottle - the cloud app - The kids' app that points the screen at the sky

byโ€ข
Cloud spotting for kids 4โ€“13, AI-powered. Point the camera at the sky, AI traces a shape (a dragon, a whale, a rocket) and Nancy the bunny shares a fun fact. Parents set real-world Mega Prizes (ice cream date, trip to park) that drop randomly during play.

Hi Product Hunt ๐Ÿ‘‹ I'm Adam, the solo dev behind Spottle. I built this because I got tired of screens that point AT my kid. Every "educational" kids' app pulls eyes DOWN. Even the good ones trap children indoors, looking at glass. Spottle inverts that. The kid points their iPhone at the sky, AI vision (Anthropic Claude with Google Gemini fallback) finds a real shape in the clouds โ€” "I see a dragon!" โ€” and Nancy the bunny traces a glowing gold outline around it while sharing a fun fact. Each find earns a point. Each day brings a fresh batch of 50 cloud finds, gently capping the session. The mechanic that turns "fun cloud game" into "the thing my kid asks to play every day": Mega Prizes. Parents pick from 15 kid-friendly real-world rewards (ice cream date, extra screen time, trip to the park) โ€” or write their own โ€” in a Parent Dashboard. The app randomly drops one mid-play. The kid sees: "WOW! You earned ICE CREAM DATE! Go tell your grown-up!" โ€” runs to find their parent โ€” the parent honors the reward IRL. The loop closes outside the app. This isn't an in-app purchase. It isn't an ad. It's a real-world thing the parent already wanted to give the kid, queued up by an app that earns the moment. What I obsessed over for v1.0: ๐Ÿ”’ Privacy: App Attest auth, zero third-party SDKs, no ads, no tracking, no chat. Photos go to a Cloudflare Worker for AI shape recognition only and are immediately discarded. COPPA + GDPR-K compliant. โ˜๏ธ Imagination Mode: works fully offline for cloudy days / road trips ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Spanish + English with one-tap switch ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Up to 4 child profiles per device, age-graded difficulty (4โ€“6 / 7โ€“9 / 10โ€“13) What I'd love feedback on: 1. Does the App Store description land for parents? (especially Mega Prizes โ€” that's the wedge) 2. The screen flow when Nancy "imagines" a shape on a featureless sky โ€” too gimmicky or magical? 3. Pricing โ€” currently free, no IAP. Considering a one-time $4.99 "unlock unlimited Mega Prize slots" later. Bad call? Free, no ads, no IAP. Built solo for my own kids and yours.
