Skipper AI — YouTube Sponsor Skip - Skip YT sponsor segments with YouTube's built-in Gemini AI

by•
Skipper AI automatically detects sponsor segments in newly uploaded YouTube videos by leveraging YouTube's built-in Ask Gemini feature. When community timestamps aren't available yet, it fills the gap and automatically falls back to SponsorBlock once they are.

Hi everyone! 👋 I'm Jagdish, the maker of Skipper AI. The idea came from a simple frustration. I love SponsorBlock and still use it every day, but it can't skip sponsor segments on newly uploaded videos because community timestamps don't exist yet. I started wondering: What if YouTube's own "Ask Gemini" feature could identify sponsor segments during that gap? That weekend experiment eventually became Skipper AI. Instead of running my own LLM (and paying for inference on every video), Skipper AI leverages YouTube's built-in Ask Gemini feature whenever it's available, then automatically falls back to SponsorBlock once community timestamps exist. The project is completely open source because I wanted people to be able to inspect the implementation, suggest improvements, and contribute. Some things I'd especially love feedback on: - Detection accuracy - UI/UX - Edge cases where it skips too much or misses sponsor segments - Ideas for improving the overall experience I've already received some fantastic feedback from Reddit and Medium, and several features on the roadmap came directly from those discussions. Thanks for checking it out! I'm happy to answer any technical questions about the implementation or the architecture.
