@elyesbenmrad We're exploring the best way to support in-person payments in markets like Canada. Today, we offer a swipe credit card reader as well as our Shopify POS + Moneris integration which supports chip, tap, and Interac on our Canadian hardware store.

@dasha_sivkov Makes sense! Not sure how widely shared this opinion is, but I'd happily pay to have that functionality, and generally a better POS experience. Our current Moneris iPP320 terminal cuts out constantly (our second unit with them). Not sure what price I'd be comfortable with, but $200-300 doesn't seem unreasonable. Of course, I understand free options are always widely loved.

@dasha_sivkov it looks like this is Shopify becoming Square faster than Square becoming Spotify. Pretty good move. Couple of questions: 1. Does it support Apple Pay, and Samsung/Google? 2. How long does it take for the clearing house (what's the avg. expected time between swipe and funds becoming available to the merchant) 3. Do you think it's simpler/easier for someone to get going with this compared to Square? 4. Does it help with inventory management between the online store and offline? This is super exciting, Shopify is on a roll for independent sellers who can't compete on Amazon.

@cancom10 Great questions! 1. We do have a reader that does (the tap chip swipe). This product is for the folks that are getting started 2. 3 days 3. For anyone using Shopify already, yes this is definitely the easiest. For those new to Shopify, they can sign up specifically for Shopify POS right from mobile apps 4. Absolutely! Right out of the box in perfect sync with the rest of the Shopify platform.

Hopefully this is the first step in greatly expanded retail software (and hardware) for shopify. I think they also have an opportunity to tackle problems like in-store traffic and conversion tracking. Imagine being able to combine in-store data easily with online data through the shopify platform. That's some next level shit right there...

@zduboss With Shopify, you get the hardware and POS app, yes. BUT, you also get the rest of the Shopify platform as well - the ability to sell online with your brand, through third party channels like FB, Amazon & many others - as well as seamless integration (things like inventory syncing), no matter where you make the sale - retail, online store or marketplaces.
