What if financial literacy was something you could experience instead of study?

Most of us learn financial advice as rules:
Save money.
Avoid unnecessary debt.
Invest.
Budget.
Build an emergency fund.
But real life doesn't give you one financial decision at a time.
You can have an unexpected expense while trying to save.
An opportunity can require you to take a risk.
Helping someone can affect your own finances.
A decision that looks good today can create a problem next week.
That gap between knowing financial advice and actually making financial decisions is what inspired City of Choices.
🏙️ City of Choices is a life simulation game built around financial decision-making.
You enter a simulated city and live through everyday situations. You earn money, spend it, save, borrow, encounter opportunities, deal with unexpected events, build relationships and make decisions that affect what happens next.
There isn't always a single “correct” choice.
The objective is to let you experience the consequences and gradually understand your own financial decision-making.
For example, one early situation gives you the opportunity to return a lost purse. You can make the choice, and the game responds to that decision through systems such as reputation, credit and points.
The money isn't real.
The decisions are.
I'm launching the first version to learn whether a simulation can make financial literacy more engaging by allowing people to practice decisions in a consequence-driven environment.
I'd especially love feedback on one question:
After playing City of Choices, do you find yourself thinking differently about the financial decisions you make in real life?
If you're curious, I'd love for you to try it and tell me what you think.
City of Choices The city is the classroom. 🏙️
