Building an AI accountant for SMEs — would founders actually use this?

by

Hey everyone 👋

I’m working on an AI-powered bookkeeping/accounting assistant for small businesses.

The idea is simple:

Most SMEs still struggle with spreadsheets, manual bookkeeping, invoices, GST/tax tracking, and bank reconciliation.

So we’re building an AI finance copilot that can:

• auto-categorize transactions

• extract invoice & receipt data

• reconcile bank statements

• track GST/taxes

• generate P&L reports

• answer finance questions in plain English

Example:

“How much GST do I owe this month?”

“Which clients haven’t paid yet?”

“What are my biggest expenses?”

The long-term vision is to help SMEs run finance operations without needing complex accounting software.

Would love feedback from:

• founders

• accountants

• ecommerce sellers

• agencies

• small business owners

What’s the biggest pain point you face with bookkeeping/accounting today?

There is a bit of a mismatch between what you are trying to build and the type of feedback you are requesting.

Transaction categorization, receipt extraction, bank reconciliation, sales tax tracking, and financial report generation aren't just features. Each one of those is a massive and distinct architectural problem with zero margin for error.

Which one of those bullet points is your core engine actually best at right now?
