👋 Hey Product Hunt! Maker here. I built ScreenREC because I was frustrated with screen recorders that: ❌ Require heavy downloads ❌ Force you to create accounts ❌ Upload your recordings to their servers ❌ Charge monthly subscriptions for basic features ScreenREC is different: ✅ Works 100% in your browser (no installation) ✅ No account needed - just open and record ✅ Privacy-first - recordings stay on YOUR device ✅ Completely free and open source Built with: Next.js, MediaRecorder API, Canvas API, FFmpeg.wasm Perfect for: • Quick bug reports to your dev team • Tutorial videos • Client demos • Async standups • Educational content I'd love your feedback! What features would make this even better for you? Try it now: screen-rec.vercel.app 🚀

can it do auto zoom and smooth cursor like screensmooth?

Can you clarify if it records webcam and screen simultaneously in full HD?

Sagnik Sahoo

@russell_dou Yes they are recording simultaneously in FHD

Great up. Why screen record is desktop only?
Sagnik Sahoo

@byjmlays It's the limitation of the browser, the mobile browser doesn't support .

Gary

Great, no installation required, would you consider screen sharing to launch a share link feature? So that other friends can see your projection, I think this will be a game-changer 👀

Hi there! Congrats on the launch.

Can it be used to make tool walkthrough videos? (I mean add texts and some animations or padding to make it look visually impressive?)

Sagnik Sahoo

@purva_guptaa Right Now Working on it to add a simple editor to add all those stuffs .

@devgossips amazing!!

@devgossips Congratulations on the product launch I tried the tool this morning, and honestly, it’s one of the best I’ve seen on Product Hunt in recent times. It’s simple and solves a very real problem. On Windows, getting high-quality screenshots and screen recordings usually means installing multiple apps, signing up, and dealing with unnecessary friction.

This removes all of that.

And I also really love the scrolling screenshot feature, it’s a great touch.

Really well done, I’d definitely recommend this to others.

@rashiaroraofficial thank you so much 💗

Congrats on the launch! 🎉 As someone who records screens a lot, the no-install, no-login, record-and-go flow is a huge win for quick demos and bug reports.

@levycheng Thank you so much and Merry Christmas🎄

Huge respect for going 100% Open Source with this! 🤝 It's rare to see high-quality tools that don't lock basic features behind a paywall.

The UI looks super clean. I'm curious about the tech stack—are you using the native MediaRecorder API directly, or something like ffmpeg.wasm to handle the encoding?

Also, just a thought: adding a simple 'trim' feature before export would make this the ultimate Loom killer for me. Best of luck!

Sagnik Sahoo

@elevenapril Using the Media Recorder API for the recording , and ffmpeg.wasm for the encoding in mp4 (its done on cloud) . You can check the codebase on github. Its open source.

Yeah, I am basically adding the basic simple editor before export .
