Yay, another super happy user here!
It's fashionable these days to animate captions. But I live in a world where conversion counts, and animated captions in our product videos exclude appr. 14% of the audience. Can you build in an option to turn the animation off?
We wrote to each other, exactly a year ago about it 😊 Topic: Re: Screen Studio Feedback - accessibility of captions.
@anne_mieke_bovelett1 Hi Anne! Yes, we found our emails!
We rebuilt captions in 4.0. The word-by-word light-up you mentioned is now the “Fade in” option, so you can turn it off by picking “Appear” under Word animation in the Captions tab. Words still show up as they’re spoken though, so it may not be fully static yet. You can also export the transcript as .srt, which now matches your cuts, and use it as regular captions on YouTube or your site. Would that work for your audience? If not, tell me what you’d need and I’ll pass it straight to the team.
Congrats! I love Screen Studio and can't wait to use the new features in v4. As you continue to evolve, it'd be great to see more AI-powered automated editing.
@william_nutt Thanks William! What would you want it to do for you first? Asking for v5 :D
@dawid_wilewski Thanks! The dream is to be able to restart a segment of my recording without stoping the actual recording, and then for Screen Studio to identify the best takes.
Excited to check out these new features! I enjoy Screen Studio a lot: the smart zoom features work perfectly, the editor is smooth, and the final result is always professional.
I have to say though: not being able to re-order clips is pretty frustrating. I have to export everything I make in Screen Studio and import into a different video editor, just to move one clip from the end of the recording to the beginning. It also adds pressure to the recording process since things have to be done in such a linear fashion.
That little fix alone would be a huge quality of life improvement!
@scottkorchinski Thanks Scott, really appreciate this!
We’re working on combining several projects into one and recording extra parts into an existing project. Not sure that covers what you need though.
What’s your use case? Do you record things out of order, or is it more that you realize later a part should come first?
@dawid_wilewski Thanks for your reply Dawid - what I'm recording is essentially a product demo where I assemble a complete project over time (for a music app). By the end, I have a finished song, and I just need to show a brief clip of the finished project at the beginning of the video as a hook for social media. Then the rest of the video is showing the progression of going from start to finish
@scottkorchinski Thank you; that explains a lot.
Lovely! I’ve beee using since v2 - great job with the new updates!
Congrats on the launch and good luck! Using the glass lens on my next demo 🥰
One major feature request: I've been using Screen Studio forever, but there are two missing things that make the workflow 10x slower:
Impossible to detach the audio track from video
Can't stitch multiple clips together
Putting this together in Final Cut Pro is a nightmare, it keeps crashing and doing weird stuff, so if you managed to ship these two I'm sure many of your users would be popping champagne and it would be a big differentiator vs cleanshot and others
@wojtekszkutnik Appreciate your kind words!! :)
We're aware multi-clips are direly needed, of course. We're working out how exactly these should work, but we're planning to address it soon. As for your first point - what would you need detaching audio for? Just curious about your use case.
Thanks for being a Screen Studio customer.
@merlindru there's a couple cases for longer recordings:
- cleaning ummss ahms coughs or someone walking in as you record
- moving audio vs video - sometimes the audio is just a narrative not something that is anchored to a very specific visual, so as you edit sometimes it makes sense to push it forwards or backwards - this happens a lot especially when you recycle shorter clips and mix and match
@wojtekszkutnik I've forwarded these to the team.
As for cleaning umms and ahms - that's already possible with 4.0. And even automatically so:
Alternatively, if you don't want to remove the segment, or do it manually, place two cuts like so:
...then click on the new segment and turn down it's volume manually in the sidebar.
Of course, I do see your case for voice-overs (and the easier ergonomics of pushing audio clips around). I've forwarded this to the team. I can't say what the solution might look like, but we'll be sure to discuss it. Thank you for elaborating!
@merlindru @wojtekszkutnik same. Need to do voice over to fix change wording and use premiere for all post SS zoom and cut both vid audio editing. Of course I’d still have to use premiere for some effects and piece together multiple SS parts to a video.
@wojtekszkutnik Thanks for the feedback Wojtek!
Absolutely love Screen Studio, have an annual license and can’t wait to try this. Thanks guys for the updates 💪🏽
@laurennp Thank you for the kind words and for using Screen Studio!
@laurennp 💜
I was an early fan and supporter of Screen Studio. But since they forced a subscription to use the product I am moving to new software and can no longer recommend. I'm sure there will be open source software on par with this soon enough.
@robmoore Thanks for the honest feedback, Rob, and for supporting us so early. Just so you know, your license still works and you keep the version you have. As an early adopter you can also renew a year of updates for much less than the regular price. If you’d like, email me at david@screen.studio and I’ll check what it would be for you.
The Glass Loupe is the detail I'd reach for in app demos — a classic zoom moves the whole screen for one tiny control, which loses the context around it. When you add a loupe after recording, can you move and resize it freely on the timeline, or is its position set while you're capturing?
@jcbuilds Hi JC! You add it after recording, so nothing is set while capturing. In the editor you can drag it to the exact spot or let it follow your cursor, change its size and zoom level, and set how long it stays by dragging its edges on the timeline. There’s also a Pan option if you want it to glide from one point to another.
I’ve been a happy customer for the last year but recent releases have felt more buggy than usual. For example, sometimes I need to restart the app since it’s stuck exporting. The features I love the most are transcripts, the cut/trim/speedup controls, and manual zooms.
Have not tried 4.0 yet but none of the highlights appeal to me at a quick glance. What would get me really excited is a solid MCP integration and the ability to mix multiple recordings in the same export. I’ll be switching over to the first alternative application I find that supports stronger agentic workflows.
@olafurpg The things you mentioned here are in the works! I can't speak to when they'll arrive or how they'll work, but of course we're aware they're direly needed.
And if you still have bugs with exporting, please reach out to team@screen.studio. We reply quickly!
If you end up giving 4.0 a try, please let us know how it goes.
Thank you for being a Screen Studio customer. :)
I’d love the ability to add a logo/water mark. I get so much value out of this product but it’s hard to make a perfect background with my logo so the ability to add a separate logo and position it would be super helpful.
@bryce_deneen Could you elaborate/show me where you want to place a logo? Is it during talking-head segments where you want your audience to be just focused on you? Or a persistent thing?
@merlindru Thanks for responding! For what I do, it would be something that would be always on top of everything else, and I can configure the placement on screen.
How I imagine it working is on this screen (the background screen) there would be a new option in the right pane that is maybe "Water Mark image" or something like that. Then I can select my logo and move it around to place it so that it alway shows. In this example I might want the Kinetic Flux logo on the bottom left outside the screen I've recorded.
The work around I sometimes use is to add the logo to a background image, but that means I have to know the exact dimensions of the screen I'm working with etc and it is a bit challenging to place perfectly. Let me know if that makes sense, happy to clarify further.
@merlindru @bryce_deneen Thanks Bryce, that makes total sense! Quick question: would a few preset positions work for you, like the corners and edges, similar to how you place the camera overlay? Or do you need to place it freely anywhere?
@merlindru @dawid_wilewski for me presets in the 4 corners and maybe being able to resize it would be perfect I don’t need to move it around. some may want it as a water mark across the whole screen and control of transparency, that is not my use case.
