I understand that hunting has traditionally been seen as a man's thing.
But Product Hunting is a completely different thing =)
There are so many women makers, marketers, designers, and developers on PH. Iāve met and interacted with quite a few of them.
But when I look at the top huntersā¦
I honestly couldnāt find women among the top hunters.
So Iām curious - why do you think that is?
Is it about trust? Visibility? The way the community works?
Or is there another reason Iām missing?
Where are the women hunters?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Iāve also been thinking about how unfair this is, and I periodically get requests to become a hunter myself.
But itās a really responsible role. Itās not enough to just have the title - you need to actually bring value to makers, have a very strong community, real influence, and strong product vision. Itās basically a full-time job on its own.
But Iām planning to start moving in this direction (did I say it aloud? š)

I actually had an experience last week that made me think about this.
A maker offered me to hunt their product (I guess he saw me at #1 on the leaderboard and thought I was a Hunter).
But then, after I asked for the materials for the hunt, he changed his mind - maybe he realized Iām not actually a Hunter =D
And thatās when the idea popped into my head: why not? =)
So I started looking into it and realized I couldnāt find a single woman Hunter at all.
@adanaĀ My hypothesis is that women take many things too seriously or too responsibly, which is why they find it difficult to take on that kind of responsibility. Meanwhile, men are willing to act as āhuntersā for several projects a day (after all, a āhunterā is simply someone who found a great product and thought it was worth featuring on Product Hunt -nothing beyond that).
But thatās just a hypothesis.
@maria_anosovaĀ Hmmm, you made me thinkā¦ I found some feeling inside myself, like the one you described. Do you think itās a woman/man difference or more about the person?
@adanaĀ I'd like to say that āit depends more on the person,ā but I often find that men are more assertive.
And I'm genuinely happy when I see women who āmanagedā (to achieve something, make a name for themselves, or bring their product or ideas to life)
It's an interesting topic. I'm sure there are stats that help to understand why. Things like, traditionally, more men have been involved in tech, and men are more willing to take risks, so naturally, more will hunt. Just like fundraising, more men fundraise. All of those things are changing, and we're seeing more women take prominence. Hopefully that means we'll see more women hunt their products too!

I've had the same question since joining the Product Hunt community earlier this year, especially over the past few weeks while we were preparing our launch with an almost all-female team of makers š

Sheep like helping sheep, and goats like helping goats. They have a lot in common, but they usually prefer to stick to their own circle. And even though some focus only on strength, it's hard to break the structural problem. Here's an interesting thought ā would you like to be my hunter next time? Maybe we can break the circle first? ;D
