After seeing the destruction a friend of mine faced due to the war in Ukraine, I decided initially to join the combat. However, shortly after realizing I'd be a greater liability in the field, my co-creator suggested we could do so much more within our available means.
It all started with a reddit thread where I've offered to pay travel expenses for medics and ex-combatants. During this phase, my co-creator, Tejas and I have come across numerous private groups that were full of spam and unverified help. While the bad actors were taking advantage of the situation, we decided to make an app that's more secure and reliable for people needing help.
Thus, we raced against time, working tirelessly for 2 weeks to launch the first version of Refuge that is today. Along the way, we have received tremendous support from two of our partners. Hyperverge offered a near-instant KYC verification, and Stytch offered a passwordless authentication solution. Refuge will forever be free, and we plan to add more features. The iOS and full-fledged web version are available in the next couple weeks.
We appreciate everyone for their support, and collectively we believe to provide support for everyone in need. Please share your feedback, and share the app with your friends, and let's offer more help.
This is awesome. We aren't in this particular space, but our application is also trying to work as a commubication app to get those in need. Maybe we can partner? We are covering on the ground news from civilians in Ukraine/Russia that are fleeing for the situation, and representing them on how they share the news. Let me know! Good luck on the launch!
