What if any author could work with Barack Obama's editor or Stephen King's designer to create a bestselling book? At Reedsy, we're making that possible: we recently launched a curated marketplace for publishing professionals. We allow authors to find and collaborate with about 300 top editors, designers and (soon) marketers. On top of that, we allow any author to create beautiful webpages that they use to market their books. Their fans can follow them and be notified about new releases or blog posts. Here's for instance bestselling author Sara Raasch's profile: https://reedsy.com/author/sara-r... You can read more about Reedsy here: http://techcrunch.com/2014/11/06... We look forward to helping you on your book. Any feedback on our product would be very appreciated!

Great concept, and the Goodreads integration is a really nice touch too! Also saved to my “Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur” collection :) http://www.producthunt.com/j_gre...

@j_greig Cheers James! Will take a look at your collection.

I like how Reedsy is both trying to democratize book publishing and improve book marketing, two areas that I believe need a lot of help + effort. Having published a book I saw the challenges across the board -- the writing, it turns out, is often the easiest part of the experience (and most fun), but editing, book design, and most importantly marketing/promotion are hard and often "black boxed" by publishing companies. This is changing now, and at an accelerated pace, with companies like Reedsy and others pushing hard. Disclosure: I'm an investor in Reedsy.

Thanks for your comment, Ali! We're really building an intermediate model. We want to keep the business model of self-publishing (where you keep your rights and royalties), but without sacrificing the quality of the editorial and design input of traditional publishers. They're intermediaries, but not gatekeepers: you're in control.

@ricardofayet god, you're definitely my co-founder!

This is an interesting evolution of the publishing industry. Self-publishing came about to eliminate the middle men in order for the authors to capture more of the value that they create. It seems like Reedsy is moving back to the more traditional model of having intermediaries. And as someone who is on the road to self-publishing, I can see why: it's hard! I'll be interested to see how this gets adopted.

@alirtariq Hey Ali! We're kind of hybrid actually: you'll see on our author profiles that authors can interact directly via their readers through their profile and the following feature. But yes, we intervene in the curation of the content that will be published and its promotion; we're building Reedsy as a quality brand and we want our authors to benefit from it as well (vs posting an epub file on Amazon which doesn't bring readers).

This is the tool that I wish I had when I published my first novel. It's a deus ex machina for indie authors looking to follow their passion and find their fans.

Love the model. Let authors do what they do best—write—and then provide access to others who can help with editing, design, and marketing. Great concept and looking forward to see how it turns out.
Emmanuel Nataf
@bkparikh thank you Bhavin!

It's about time for the publishing houses to face a real modern competitor. Reedsy is the best positioned in the industry to accelerate the disruption of traditional publishing companies and bridge the gap between old-school publishing and complete self-publishing as it stands today.

@jbreinlinger Thank you Josh!
