Why doesn't writing under a pen name feel normal anymore?

Been building Quotethought for a while now. It's a place for quotes and longer writing, and one thing that kept coming up while building it: almost every app makes you write as you. Your real name, your real face, right there next to every thought.

But some of the best writing (the stuff about heartbreak, about the thing you're actually going through, about grief or love or the version of yourself you're still figuring out) doesn't want your LinkedIn headshot attached to it. People used to write under pen names all the time. Somewhere along the way, every platform decided that was a UX problem to solve away instead of a feature.

So that's one of the first things we built in: write under whatever name actually fits the thing you're writing. Same account, different voice when you need it.

Curious what others think: do you write differently when your real name is attached vs. not? Has anonymity (or a pen name) ever made you write something more honest than you otherwise would have?
