I personally think this is awesome as long as the voting algorithm knows to count those votes differently to prevent misuse. This could also serve as a badge of honor of being featured on PH. I would love to add it to our site - would like to hear a bit more from the community before we do.. Great job!
Great job! 🙌
btw, this button does not work on sites with SSL/HTTPS
This looks interesting. Will give it a try.
Would something like this be allowed in a newsletter? Say, you send out a newsletter to your users asking if they'll vote for you. I'm just wondering what the PH guidelines are/how this would be viewed.
you don't really need this button to ask for upvotes in an email, people do that already - and we detect that :)
Yeah that's what I thought - just wanted to check what the PH view of it was.
Nice tool. Can u integrate a vote button rather than opening th product hunt page ?
Once a product moves off the home page, I tend to loose track of it. My upvotes also function as bookmarks. This will be great to quickly add to my list and then be able to come back and review later.
Nice to see Yvo got this out there. well done!
My concern is that this serves to reduce the level-nes of the PH playing field. The idea of product hunt, in my mind at least, is anybody who has an idea that captures the interest of the PH community, can get broad exposure to a group of likeminded users. Allowing any submitter with a large independent audience to bring that audience (by posting the vote button on their home page) to PH for the purpose of voting up will: - Drive up the average # of votes at a rate faster than the growth of the contributing community (a bad thing for a healthy community) - Materially harm the chances for products without a web outlet (e.g. An app in the store) - Make it more likely that the PH top pages are dominated by large brands vs. scrappy startups. The PH app doesn't scroll comments so I'm going to stop now. 😄
I agree with your POV, and getting products by non-insiders on top of PH makes it a unique place, but reality is that people with access to a large audience already sent out promo emails/tweets telling them about their product on PH.
I was curious - just tried creating a button but the demo doesn't show count and the button doesn't link to the page. Looks like the Vote Button is DEAD or KILLED...!!
actually just a bug in the button generator... fixed now.
I still have an issue with, I have just plus but not counts, can you please check if everything works. Looks like I was not the only one affected by this bug.
