Storytelling in your mother tongue: what changes for the kid?

We've been thinking about why kids respond differently to stories in their mother tongue vs. dubbed or translated versions. Same plot, same characters, but something different happens when a child hears a story in the language of their grandparents.

For parents who tell or play stories in your native language: what have you noticed? Do kids ask for the same story in different languages? Do they connect with cultural references differently? Has hearing stories in the mother tongue changed how they relate to family abroad?

Asking because we ship stories in 7 languages and we're starting to see engagement patterns we didn't expect. Hindi sessions complete at 72%, Tamil at 67%, English at 51%. The native-language pull seems to be real even when kids understand English well.
