The product bundling playbook ... increase profit without discounting (with margin formula)
Hey PH š
Quick reframe on bundling that changed how I think about it when building Okiela:
Bundling is not a discount strategy. It's a margin architecture play.
The numbers that make this clear:
- AOV increases 20ā30% with well-designed bundles
- Conversion rates up 15ā25%
- Bundled customers have 2.7x higher lifetime value than single-item buyers
The math that explains why: when you sell two items separately, you pay for two CAC events, two fulfillment picks, two shots at the customer saying no. When you bundle them, you pay for one of everything, and often earn more profit per transaction even at a discount.
The most counterintuitive example from the article: a gift bundle where items retail for $39 individually, sold curated with premium packaging for $44.99. No discount... a premium. The customer is paying for curation and decision relief, not just product.
The 5 bundle types covered: starter, replenishment, slow mover, gift, and complete solution... each with the specific pricing formula to protect margin (minimum 55% gross margin floor, never exceed 25% total discount).

What's worked best for anyone here who's run bundles on Shopify? Curious
